3Shelf life?Apr 17, 2011
By David Hobbs
These pens must have some kind of shelf life. Here's the story:

When I first got them, I noticed that they had problems writing on certain types of paper. I assumed this was due to the rollerball.

Now, that box is nearly 2 years old. Each pen I take from the box, remove the little plastic tip, then start writing with seems to run out of ink after a few letters. If shake the pen up and down a few times, I can write a few more letters.

I guessing the gel has hardened over time and doesn't flow. I use my laptop for taking notes, so pens last a long time in my office.

Recommendation: don't buy in bulk if you don't plan on using frequently. If so, do like me and switch to ball point.

5Wonderful pens for a thick, black gel lineMay 15, 2009
By HLS
I actually found these pens to be excellent and didn't have any problems fiddling with them to get them to write. While they aren't refillable, which makes them kind of expensive, since I write a lot of notes. However, once again Zebra has shown they know how to make awesome pens. The line is strong, dark, and quick-drying. They also don't feel awkward in my hand and I don't cramp as much from using them.

I'm going to have to purchase some more soon, I only have 3 left. :)

1HORRIBLE PENSOct 12, 2008

These pens should be taken off the market. You have to play around with the tip before they write each time you go to use the pen. Not worth a dime.

5I can't live without this pen!Aug 18, 2010
By B. Neff "I'm going to knit the world a sweater"
You know how you're in bed doing a crossword puzzle or writing in your journal and the ink in your pen's flowed back up the tube and you have to hold it right-side-up & shake it so the ink will come back to the nib? Annoying! That's why I love this pen!! I can write in bed laying down as flawless as if I were sitting at my desk. Smooth ink flow, dries quickly, lasts a long time & is way worth the money spent! This pen feels good in my hand and it becomes addicting to write my name over and over again with it because it's so nice to use! I think this pen is all around better than the more pricy ones @ $8.00 a pen.

Just don't take the globby bubble that keeps the ink fresh off the nibs if you're not going to use the pen, after a length of time the ink will dry!

I was a little upset that my local retail stores no longer carry them but, now I know they're here, I'm happy and I'm going to order up a few more boxes so I'm never without!

5Flawless. Great For Music ManuscriptJun 17, 2010
By frankp93 "frankp93"
I bought what appears to be a domestic Japanese version of the Zebra pen (branded "Surari" with Japanese barcode?) at a bookstore in New Jersey and have used it exclusively since. It produces a near-caligraphic line like a fine nib pen - but without the scratchy touch. The medium .7 mm gauge tip is perfect for music manuscript on standard-sized staves.

These pens would also make fine drawing tools that are much cleaner to use for crosshatching than traditional pen and dipping ink.

The black ink is truly black; the flow is very steady, the tip stays clean and a light touch will give you a lot of control. Retraction feels solid and the pen diameter is thicker than a classic ballpoint but not as stubby as some of the larger rollerballs.

Nothing against New Jersey but I'm happy to find I can get a box of these same pens online for a great price!
