5I'm very happy with this Skype desktop phone!Dec 22, 2010
By Frederick W. Chapman "Consultant/Scientist at F.W. Chapman Solutions"
I bought one of these Skype desktop phones for my home office. This is one of the few dedicated Skype phones which plugs directly into a router, which means that you can make and receive calls on this phone even when your computer is off. This is a very important feature to me, since I would otherwise have to leave my computer on all the time.

This is a full-featured desktop phone with lots of handy extras, like a hold button, a mute button, and a redial button. The sound quality of this phone is excellent. The built-in speakerphone is so good that I almost never use the handset.

This phone gives you full access to all the features of Skype for voice calls, such as your Skype contact list. My favorite feature is one-button access to recent calls, which makes it easy to look up the numbers of people you call frequently -- just press the green call button and presto!

I wholeheartedly recommend this desktop phone for home business owners who want to use Skype to save a lot of money on their second phone line. I also use Skype for my home phone, and my two-line home/office phone system costs me only $10/month!

1Unacceptable sound quality (but nice features)Oct 02, 2010
By Henry Jackson
On paper, this looks like a nice phone -- full support for Skype Out, Skype In, voicemail, Skype contacts, and it doesn't need to be hooked up to a computer. And in general it works well.

However, the outgoing call quality is completely abysmal, and because of that this phone is totally unsuitable for any kind of conversation. People literally could not understand a single word I said. I called my own cell phone to hear the problem firsthand. Words are robotic and garbled. Maybe one syllable in 10 comes through clearly. It's incredible that this product is even for sale. (Incoming call quality is OK, though not nearly as good as Skype on my computer. Think cellphone quality.)

Another minor annoyance is that the keys need to be pressed quite firmly to register, but this seems like a silly point compared to the call quality.

I'm sending this back immediately.

5Much better than expected!Jan 13, 2011
By Kent "thewiz"
The phone is better than I imagined. Volume and screen brightness are excellent over a wide range, with total voice clarity over local phone lines and over the internet to Siberia. The unit sits solidly on the desk so I can press the keys firmly. The timing is just right for my ability to enter alphabetic characters. There is a lookup table accessible by the "@ #" button to enter further non-standard characters that might be in an email address. Entering an email address does find the related Skype contact. I can key in new contacts faster at the computer; the telephone unit updates automatically to match the computer contact list. I can log in using a different Skype account. Incoming calls ring at the devices that are logged into Skype. If both are logged out, voicemail picks up at once. If both are logged in, the phone unit rings once more than the computer (which I have set for a 15 second delay) before the voicemail announcement. Both the phone unit and the computer save new voicemail messages. After I delete messages from the phone, they are still archived at the computer. I have lost nothing and have gained the use of my incoming and outgoing Skype lines at an additional location in the house, and at times when the computer is not turned on. An online inquiry received a prompt phone call from technical support. Count this a major triumph for Skype and for Xblue!

3Good, but not good enough.Sep 22, 2011
By Markus
I am using the Skype Desktop phone now for several weeks, bottom line: It is good, but not good enough.
Pros:sound quality, easy to install and easy to use, works stand alone, size
Cons: Keyboard, Contact management, Prize

I am using the phone mostly as my home office line. I have to attend a lot of conference calls, so after dialing the number I have to add additional codes. The keyboard sucks, 4 out of 5 times the dial tones are not identified correctly. The number on the display shows correctly, but the interpretation does not! So I have to enter them over and over again. I also haven't seen an option to manage your contacts, other than from the Skype software itself.

On the other hand, installation, usage and sound quality are very good.

4Great way to use skypeAug 22, 2011
By Bright Thinker
Spent a couple hours combing the net on this product to see if it was any good. It seems to be the exact same "Made In China" sister to the Freetalk unit that is "Skype Certified" on Skype's website. This one seems to come with documentation and maybe a bit of support from the XBlue people who seem to be OEMing it.

Works really well. Plugs right into your broadband and you can start calling people if you use Skype In/ Skype Out. It is nice to be able to use your computer for other things than telephoning someone.

One concern was the quality. The XBlue logo was placed on the unit crooked, it looked like it could be straightened, but it just broke apart. We just had to pull it off completely.

Frankly, it is a great way to work from a home office and use the Skype In number and voicemail you have. Speaker phone seems to be pretty decent as well. If you like Skype and want to be more productive, then this is probably a unit you should have.

We hope that Microsoft's purchase of Skype will not kill this useful service.
