5BEST performance EVERMar 12, 2009
By Andy Yen Hsin Chen
The Verbatim Store 'n' Go PRO USB Flash Drive - 16GB performance is advertised as below

Transfers even large files/folders fast!...Up to 80X Write (12MB/s) and 200X Read (30MB/s) speed

GUESS WHAT, I tested the NON PRO "Verbatim Store 'n' Go USB Flash Drive 16GB" and the performance came out to be the same. I have performed a benchmark test using SisSoftware Sandra Lite. the results are as follows

When transferring a 2MB file
Reads: 27955kB/s
Writes: 7168kB/s

When transferring a 64MB file
Reads: 27307kB/s
Writes: 12015kB/s

CONCLUSION: Don't waste your money buying the so called pro drive, becoz I think this one is just as fast as the pro drive, in fact I suspect they even use the same chip, just that the pro drive is advertise to be super fast to get more $$ out of ur pocket. Benchmark testing is one thing, in real life scenario, I find the drive to be extremely fast and reliable.

By the way, I didn't buy it from amazon, but just thought that I might want to post a review here coz it's more likely to be read.

5Great product.Nov 26, 2009

This unit does exactly what it's supposed to do. One hint, however, and this applies to many flash drives.

A lot of flash drives come with pre-installed utilities. Some of these utilities can create havoc with systems (and the drives themselves). Been there, done that - trust me. So, whenever I get a flash drive, the first thing I do IMMEDIATELY is format it to NTFS. All I want in a flash drive is a storage device - without all the dubious bells and whistles that, sometimes, can cause problems. Formatting deletes those problems before they become problems.

4Nice rubber skinSep 14, 2006

I am replacing my 1GB Sandisk Cruzer with the Verbatim 2GB. The first thing I found out is that it does not fully go in in the front USB ports of my Dell 4500 desktop. I have to use a USB extension. It doesn't come with one either.

The rubberish skin is a nice feel compare to the cheap plastic of the Sandisk Cruzer. Also, it feels sturdy that I'd have no problem chaining it with my keys. Performance wise, it pretty fast. Noticeable better read/write than the Sandisk.

1Lost data -- not for linuxJul 29, 2011
By Ray
Probably the worst flashdrive in the world. I've already gone through 3 of these, my officemate has gone through 3-4, and another co-worker went through 2. The symptoms: sometimes, when you safely eject your USB drive, and later plug it back in to your computer, the drive claims to be un-formatted. Then, when I attempt to reformat the USB drive, the disk claims that only 2 MB of space is available!

After going through a total of 10 of these drives, we searched online for reviews in regards to issues with this product. It turns out that there's a "privacy" mode that is suppose to safeguard your data and it is getting triggered. Once the privacy mode is triggered, there's no way to recover your data unless you had previously run the V-Safe software that came on the thumb-drive initially. What's even worse is that the software is only available for WINDOWS. To disable the v-safe software completely, you need a Windows computer with administrative access. If you are running a Mac or a Linux computer and don't have access to a Windows computer, this drive is not for you.

I've lost enough data, time and energy because of this lousy product. It does not even mention to run the v-safe software prior to use of the drive.

1Didn't make it through first writeJul 28, 2011

This flash drive quit working the first time I attempted to write data to it. It also would not format using Windows, or any third party software I tried. No LED to tell when data is being written or read. Three words: Made In China.

I ended up returning this drive and buying the HP 32GB flash drive and have had no problems with it. (The HP drive was NOT made in China.) It was a few dollars more, but worth it.
