2DON'T PASSWORD this FLASH DRIVEMar 27, 2011

I did the "suggested" PASSWORD PROCESS for part of the capacity and left the rest NON-PASSWORDED.

Now THE ONLY part that is usable is the small amount of the DRIVE that was passworded.

It will NOT RE-FORMAT to the "original FULL compaticity" of the flash drive.

It will only FORMAT the small partition. I have changed Windows POLICIES and it still will not allow the flash drive see it's full 1.86 GB. (it only ever sees 899 MB partition).

SO the other 2 drives I have simple RE-FORMATED them FULLY to remove the START-UP hassel of the delay of entering a password.

Avg Read: 13.7 MB/s

Min Write: 448.5 KB/s <---- YES! KB, not MB
Max Write: 6.7 MB/s
Avg Write: 1.3 MB/s

Avg access time: 0.9 ms

Source: Gnome Disk Utility ("palimpsest") running on CentOS 6.2

You should expect an Average Write speed of 5 MB/s to 6 MB/s from a decent flash drive.
The Average Read speed should be in the 30's.

I ran these tests after it took about an hour to copy a 3 GB Linux ISO file to one of these sticks.

I recently bought a 3-pack of these drives and was so impressed with the "old" version quality that I bought three more. The new three pack are terrible quality. They have no indicator light and the write/read speed is only 5.4/11.4. Not even class four speed on the read! One of my sticks was even defective. It's a shame to see Verbatim choosing to make such garbage. They lost me as a customer. Go with patriot usb 3.0 to get a decent drive. Don't waste your money.

PITIFULLY SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, don't waste your money! Big disappointment. Older Verbatim 4GB flash drives I have are 3 times as fast. Will throw these away. Don't understand why Verbatim undermines their past good reputation by selling this junk.

I bought three packs of the 2GB three packs (so 9 total) and they had a light, were pretty quick, and the slide out latch worked great. I then needed a bit larger size 4GB would suffice, since I liked the 2GB so much I bought three packs of the three pack 4GB version. Slow! Even large single files were less than 3MB/sec. Forget about throwing a bunch of small files on it, it will run less than 1MB/sec. Also there is no indicator light on the 4GB version. First one I used I thought it was just a bad one. But none of the 9 I bought had the light. Then there's the latch. On the 2GB version it was great, snapped in place, wouldn't budge until you pressed firmly down on it to slide the connector back into the casing. Well 4GB version I have trouble putting the flash drive in my laptop because it slides back into the case just by trying to install it in the computer. Bad, bad, bad. Sorry Verbatim, stick with the same design as the 2GB and I'll buy a bunch. But for now, forget these 4GB ones.
