Good, sturdy binoculars for amateur astronomyJul 09, 2010

I bought these for amateur astronomy, and they are great for the purpose.

My reasons were:
1) The eyepieces are focused individually.
a) Can be set and forgot for astronomy, since no need to change focus.
b) Unlikely to be knocked out of focus.
c) Generally, this is a sturdier focus mechanism, so less likely to break.
2) Low power gives a wide field of view.
3) They are bright yellow, so much easier to spot in the dark than black, gray, etc.
4) Water proof and fog proof is also nice to have at night outside.

They are a bit heavy, but I am was okay with that.

It has been nearly 3 years since I purchased these, and I am still happy with the purchase. The are in like-new shape. I still use them for amateur astronomy and to watch wildlife around my house. The caps are permanently attached and can sometimes recover the objective lens when you set them down, but that is a minor annoyance compared to losing them or not having them when you need them.

Like MOST marine binoculars these are individual eye focus. This works great for astronomy because you are looking at far away objects. Once you focus, you never have to focus again. Crystal clear images. No fogging. A bit heavy, but wow, what a view. Quality constructed binocular, case and strap. Highly recommended.

It's useful on my boat, but please note that you have to focus each eyepiece SEPARATELY. Otherwise, works well.

The paperwork included in this package shows a center distance focus.

It says to focus left eye, then right eye and then use center knob to focus for distance.

There Is not center knob to focus.

I bought these as a backup pair, but after using them i preferred them over my 800.00 stabilizers. They are very clear and quite durable, a great pair of lost cost binos.
