I use it for my laptop while in Europe.

Works well - light is still green (though I haven't experienced a surge yet)

I like the fact that it's in-line, which can be useful if you don't want to lug around a power strip or have a bulky socket-based protector

Works on European and American voltages. You will need a plug adapter if you want to use American-style plugs in foreign countries.

Also, FYI, almost all laptops nowadays work in dual voltages, so there's no need for a voltage converter. Just look on you laptop's power adapter for something like 100-240 volts.

I got this on the recommendation of an electronics expert who said it was the best for laptop protection and world travel. It is good for 110-240V and goes in between your power supply and the cord that used to go from your power supply to the wall, inline protection for one computer and all you need is a converter plug for the regular computer power cord. You must have this type of C8 plug for it to fit onto your power supply. The high joule rating is what makes it so good in terms of protection. I pried open an old one and it appears to have 2 MOVs instead of just one, in other words one for each prong and a two prong unit. This is good.
I use this for my MacBookPro. It fits right into the square white power supply and then the cord fits into it. HOWEVER, please note that the female end of the unit does not fit the proprietary Mac power supply plug perfectly. It is necessary to shave down and basically remove one of the little ridges inside the female socket so that the Mac plug will slide into it; the Mac plug only has one groove on it and not two like a regular C8 so it will not accommodate two ridges. Unique Mac design.... To remove one of the ridges inside the Tripp Lite socket requires a sharp blade and a good bit of pressure. I do not know if this voids the warranty but at this price I'm not complaining. The protection is still 100% as good.

I like this travel protector very much, because it easily fits in my carry case and it stays connected inline all the time. And I don't need a separate wall jack for it. If you travel to another country with a converter, there's nothing to do - just plug your cord into the adapter. The only reason that I took one star away is because it has regular telephone jacks, and almost no one uses dial-up these days. It really should have ethernet connectors.
