Great UPS for the money - CORRECTION - 2 Stars nowJul 05, 2009

So after I wrote the review below. The UPS started having issues. Sometimes it would be off when I went to use the computer. I was not sure if my kids turned it off, or maybe a power surge. It was very random. I did eventually rule out the kids and power surges. Then 1 day the unit would not turn back on. After 2 emails to Tripp Lite (1 to discribe the problem and the other to answer their questions, like serial #, devices hooked up (actual watts used)...) They responded quickly by sending me a new UPS. Not the same model but the same capacity. I have to rate the UPS 2 stars, but Tripp Lite gets 5 stars for their quick response.

Old Review:
I have had this UPS now for 9 months. It has come in handy on more than 1 occasion, with power going out a few times when I was using my PC. I have a Dell XPS desktop, 32" LCD monitor and 19" LCD monitor running on it with no issues. Works as expected, beeps loudly when the power is lower than expected (ie brown-out or no power).

It takes up very little room and has plenty of plugs and good spacing between them. The plug design is very simple with UPS backup on side and surge protected only on the other. The only minor thing to point out is the UPS connector is on the opposite side of the AC cord. So the way I have mine UPS on the floor is a slight protrusion from the USB cable back to the PC. Not a big deal, just not as clean as it could be.

This unit has been well worth it. I have another PC setup and wish I would have had a second unit for it, due to a power surge that ruined one of my external Hard Drives. So, now I am going to get another UPS (live and learn).

I was building a 1156 media center and needed backup power to protect my investment. This unit was easy to setup, with Windows 7 and has already come on two times doing a great job. It is a great buy.

We have many brownouts where I live and having this hooked up for a month it has already been through 2 events. I was very surprised to see a USB wire enclosed that allows connection with the tower and shuts it down if I am not here. Love this unit and would not buy anything else. The on/off button is a little strange as you have to depress and hold for the unit to start or turn off, but that is a not enough to give it a less rating.

Recent storms had me in the dark, I have a mega unit for my desktop computer which my pc will stay on about an hour but when the power is out I can use my pc for a while but with no internet or phone what can I do with my computer? I bought this and plugged in my Cable Modem, Router, and Voip Box, 2 weeks later a power outage happened and everything in my house was in the dark except there I was still on my computer with internet and phone, looking out at the neighbors they had nothing and I was working away in the dark.

As long as my cable company's main generator works I will be ok for at least an hour at home with my computer but I suspect I will have phone and internet for much longer since those are the only 3 things plugged into this battery backup.

Great product... of course, since I installed it the power stopped going out all the time! But its been tested and works great!
