5Not a lot to say! It's Great!Apr 15, 2004
By Donald Smith
This stapler is an old standard. It rarely jams, and opens for stapling to walls as well as regular stapling. It is solid, and will take a beating (and even ocasionally being used to hit something).

One way you can check quality is by checking the people who use the object. In this case offices worldwide, and particularly Banks in my own experience.

My grandmother worked for a bank, and I remember going to visit her (and playing with the stapler on her desk). Today I work for a bank, and it was part of what ended up on my desk when I got here.

*****Final Thoughts*****
You can't go wrong with this stapler. It has solid construction, rarely jams, and is used by companies that like to save money.

5fine stapler that you can't afford to go withoutFeb 07, 2008
By Matthew G. Sherwin
Swingline has made excellent staplers for decades now. My father still uses them in his office and I have one or two at home all the time.

This stapler will amaze you at how well it works. Just gently pull open the top cover of the "drawer" where the staples will be stored until you use them and then insert the staples. In addition, this Swingline stapler is manufactured in such a way as to make it difficult for two staples to come out at the same time. That way you get one clean through staple for your documents with no mess. It's all very clean cut.

Obviously, if you need to staple huge bundles of paper at a time, this stapler might not be up to such an extreme challenge. People usually have a pretty intuitive feel for how many pages of paper can be stapled by this. They say it can staple up to twenty sheets of paper; but if your paper is very "heavy" (or, thick) than it might be able to staple something more like 15 or 16 pages of paper.

Overall, this is a very well made stapler that will easily last you years. The staples that go with the staples are just as nicely priced as this stapler itself. I highly recommend this stapler by Swingline for your home office and general purpose needs.

5The Ford Mondeo of staplers.Sep 29, 2010
By Alan Edward Creager
This is it, folks. If ye seek a solid, dependable, inexpensive stapler that can be used to staple in a variety of ways and can also be brandished as a means of convincing subordinates to leave your office, look no farther.

The Swingline Commercial Desk Stapler (S7044401A) has a name and- ID number?- literally longer than that of the USS West Virginia. It is the most solid stapler I've ever encountered, being made almost entirely of metal. It holds... a lotta staples. Don't know how many. But jams are infrequent and the design works superbly. Sitting on a desk, it does its job well. But the bottom can be swung out, allowing one to staple things to a wall or ceiling as well. It isn't the flashiest of staplers- just as the Ford Mondeo is not the flashiest of cars- but like the Mondeo it is a proven design that always, always gets the job done. If you're a manager, there's no better or more handy a device to wield when seeking to motivate subordinate employees.

1Worst stapler ever -- total downturn in qualityJun 12, 2012
By T. Savage
This model stapler used to be a classic of desktop dependability, but no longer. The one we received is HORRIBLE -- 2 out of 3 stapling attempts result in a staple jammed inside the stapler head, or only one leg of staple penetrating the paper, or badly mis-formed staple legs. Close inspection of the stapler head reveals poorly fitting, mis-aligned parts. Have just replaced it with a Swingline "Smooth Grip" stapler -- works great, less expensive. In the end, it's only a stapler, so just pick one that works and go with it!

1So BAD. please listen to all the reviewsJul 05, 2012
By CAtoPAandbackagain
Okay, I never review but I just want the next person to know that you need to listen to the more recent reviews. something is very wrong with the current supply of this product. Looks good ... works for a couple of days... and GARBAGE. its only 8 dollars but that was a huge waste of lunch money.
