Best case for the Q; I've tried them all. But beware the red case.Sep 09, 2010

When I first got my Q, I tried many different cases for it. Leather, silicone, hard "rubberized"... None of them hold a candle to the Speck cases. They add the least amount of bulk to the phone of any case, and they protect the screen without distorting it. They are two-piece cases. You put the Q in the back piece, which could not fit any more snugly, and then you snap the front on to the back. It uses a clever mechanism to secure the two pieces together that is invisible unless you're looking for it, unlike other hard cases that have visible tabs on the outside. Once the case is secured, it is actually quite difficult to remove. This is as close you can get to carrying the Q without a case while still protecting it.

The three-pack comes with a clear, smoke and red case. The smoke and the clear cases are the best. I prefer the smoke, myself. However, the red case--while it looks cool on the phone--is the least usable. As I said, there are only two pieces to the case. So the part that protects the screen is made from the same stuff as the rest of the case. So when you use the smoke case, the screen is slightly darkened, but when you use the red case, the colors are pretty much eliminated and it's like looking at a black and white screen. It is absolutely NOT like the photo depicts at all. However, I will not take off a star for the red case, since you essentially get two extra cases free with whichever one you decide you like best.

I will say that the screen protecting part of the case lies directly on top of the screen, just like a stick-on protector would, but of course it is much thicker than a sticker so it's stronger. Seriously, they could not have made this case fit any better.

The case does not have a belt clip attaching point on the back, but this also is a plus, not a minus. I highly recommend putting a ClipHanger (Google it) on the back of this case. Using the ClipHanger, I hang the Q from a belt loop upside down. If I get a notification (text, call, email, etc.), I can just lift the Q and view the screen to see what's going on while still attached to my belt loop. The Speck case + the ClipHanger is simply the best solution for the Q possible. Once I put these two together and started using them, I've never had the desire to search for another case for the Q again. Once I replace my Q, I will almost certainly by another Speck See-Thru case and ClipHanger for whatever phone I get.
