2Died in first two weeksMar 09, 2010
Within the first two weeks it is now showing me that half of the 16 gig of files contain "no song" although it was OK for the first week or so. I have had a couple other Sansa products and they have worked reasonably well except for the battery life. Very disappointed in this current player.

I bought this on 1/1. Liked it alot, loaded all my music. While I was walking along on 3/3, listening to Kings of Leon, it just stopped working. Splat. No rhyme or reason. Same thing happened with one I bought my daughter several mos ago. I guess you get what you pay for. iPod, here I come.

This is a great product. It is capable of playing music and videos. You could put an entire movie on this thing with no problems. This is a great mp3 player. 16 GB holds roughly 4000 songs, more than enough for the average joe. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a good mp3 player for a great value.

1Poor feature setMar 04, 2010
I almost can't believe how unusable this product is. The first problem is that every time you try use it you need to power it up, and that takes - I'm not exaggerating or kidding here - 5 mins. I have computers that boot more quickly. The thing is you really do need to put it into suspend mode every time you are done. Just pausing the music and locking the controls causes it drain the battery within a day. If you suspend it and come back with 5 mins, it's fine. But if you try to use it a few hours later, it will require 5 mins to start.

Secondly, I bought this for its ability to add memory. That feature just flat out doesn't work. The main problem is that to your computer it looks like two drives, and it's up to you to decide what goes on each drive. That doesn't sound too bad in theory, but it creates a number of problems. You can't actually create a playlist that spans the two drives. Worst of all, it didn't actually read the card reliably. Maybe 1 time in 10, it would actually read the card.

The look of the user interface is actually quite nice. I think it's much better than the iPod I had. It's usability leaves much to be desired. I don't understand the amount of engineering that would go into a product like this and still leave off features that have been in mp3 players for years. For instance, if you browse by artist, it doesn't ignore articles when sorting. In other words, all of your "The xxx" bands will be lumped together. The scroll wheel is subpar. It doesn't accelerate, so in a moderately sized collection you'll get RSI before reaching the z's.

2A real disappointmentFeb 25, 2010
I thought, since my other sandisk mp3 players had exceptional sound quality that I could expect the same from this unit. What a surprise. The audio quality is very cheap. I spent an hour trying to adjust the equalizer to get a full bodied setting but couldn't come close. The audio actually sounded distorted to me, like it was breaking up in the same way a file that was recorded on too high a volume would sound. But my files play beautifully on my other players. Even changed the headphones twice but no change. I expected so much more. The video is beautiful. I used my own converter because I heard lots of complaints about the Sandisk converter. But I got this player with the idea that I would be getting an all around unit. Not just a video player. Too bad.
Also it offers very little in the area of adding files to the unit. No folders but those made by Windows Media Player playlists. I have other players that are so much more customer friendly in what they offer for file organization. Not happy :(
