Basic easel, awkward set-upNov 29, 2008

I frequently use flip-chart easels in my work and tried this unit, mainly for its reasonable price. The writing surface is solid and the legs steady. It is a bit heavy to carry, but certainly suitable for meeting rooms. The big complaint is the difficulty in opening and retracting the legs. When closed the legs are secured by a locking button. This button in turn needs to be fully depressed to open the legs. The problem is that it is almost impossible to do without turning the easel on its side (which requires removing the paper). The whole operation takes a few minutes and does not leave you feeling particularly professional. Three stars for the stable work surface, lose two stars for the hassle factor.

This dual-purpose white board and flipchart stand serves us well at our local Toastmasters club. It has a small chalkboard-type ledge at the bottom to hold an eraser and whiteboard markers, which helps. It is hard to put together and take down, so we just store it with the outer two legs extended and we pull up the center leg, then lean it against the wall in our Toastmasters materials closet.

I agree with the reviewer who noted the difficulty in setting up this easel. I would add that it would be much better if there were more than one option for the legs. As it is, for someone who is short, the easel is quite tall and hard to manage, especially when using a flipchart. It would be simple for the manufacturer to put a couple more holes in the legs to offer add'l height options.

Otherwise, it seems pretty good. It's surprisingly stable and the board erases nicely.

The cardboard packing and packaging was WOEFULLY inadequate; I had to send one back and the replacement was almost damaged as well (the holes in the box just missed scratching the totally unprotected whiteboard). Which reminds me: the reason why I chose this product was that it is sold by Amazon, not some third party seller, who might not have such a hassle-free and cost-free returns policy.

This item can serve as a magnetic board, a white board, a flip-chart holder, and an easel stand. It is large enough to be useful, but not so large that it can't fit in the back seat of your car. The legs easily slide in and out. The only lacking (and one I don't care about) is that it has no travel storage for pens and markers.

I bought this board so that I could use it to help my kids with their homework. The board has very stable legs, and it really helps to be able to work out geometry and algebra problems with my kids on this board.
