5Nearest to perfect yetNov 21, 2003
By JOHN C FEMIANI
When using a mechanical pencil, you should have a *good* eraser that is convenient to use. This means you should not grease it up by putting your thumb on it every time you need more lead. Also, when the eraser wears down you do not want to scratch your paper when you go to erase something.

This pencil has a nice, replacable white-eraser that completely erases and can be easily extended or retracted (and is quite long).

The side-clicker is located so it does not interfere with writing, but can easily be reached when more lead is needed.

Overall this is the best pencil out there that I have seen in these regards.

The drawback: the entire pencil is made of plastic so it is not very durable in your pocket. Particularly the back end of the pencil may crack.

5the best of the bestAug 28, 2008

This is, put simply, the best pencil I have ever used. It feels great in your hand, and the grip is very comfortable. Putting the lead clicker on side makes getting more lead easier and quicker. But, what really sells it is the eraser. It's long and replaceable, and erases cleanly every time. If you really wanted to, you could use just one of these pencils for the rest of your life. The one thing is the clip on it always breaks off, but I really don't see that as a hinderance.

1Seller is outrageous!Dec 09, 2009

Look at what "Shoplet" is offering!

Paper Mate ClearPoint 0.7mm Mechanical Pencil, Blue Barrel, Box of 12
You get a box of 12 pencils, marked down from $39.48 to $3.13. Right? Fantastic! Like it says, You Save: $36.35 (92%) What a deal! I use these pencils and my students always ask to borrow them -- they've never seen a cooler pencil!
So for a little over $10, Shoplet is selling a box of 12? The kids will be thrilled! I ordered.

Shoplets sent me one. Not one box of twelve pencils. No. One pencil. ONE PENCIL. For $3.13 PLUS seven bucks shipping. One pencil, loose, in a big blue plastic bag with a knot tied in it.

I am a teacher looking for bargains because I teach at-risk kids who can't afford to buy pencils and the school can't afford it, either. So I'm spending my own money for kids that don't have a damn pencil, and they sold me one pencil for $10. I could have picked it up at the drug store for $3.

Merry Christmas, kids! Here's the pencil I bought for the twelve of you. If you want to see the Grinch live and in person, he's down at Shoplets.

5Perfect in every wayFeb 10, 2012

The Clearpoint mechanical pencil is the best I've ever tried, in my 30+ years of accounting and bookkeeping...and I've tried many! The mechanics have only failed once in the 10+ years I've been using this pencil. The best features are that the eraser is replaceable, and the leds store in a barrel that you can see through, so you know when you need to buy more. There has never been a more reliable and easy to use pencil...ever.

3a great pencil, until it isn'tOct 28, 2011

This is a terrific mechanical pencil, the best I have used, until after a while the point stops staying in place and retracts completely as I write. Sometimes stuffing the white refill container with several lead refills helps, but most of the time it does not and the pencil can't be refilled so that it works. The pencil is expensive enough that it should last much longer.
