5Good Fit and Look in Grand CherokeeOct 22, 2009

Installed this in a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it looks good. I wanted to opt for an install kit with a 1 din and 1/2 din slot but since I could not find any, I settled with this. The fit is right on, without the frame effect that other install kits have in the 1.5 din slots. I haven't quite decided what to use the jewel case slot for (can't remember the last time I drove around with 1 CD in a jewel case), been using it for pens and my stereo remote. If you use it for a remote, remember to put a piece of foam at the back so the remote doesn't keep sliding in.

worked just right in my 98 Ram. Four stars because the finish isn't quite the same as my truck (it's more shiny), but it fit just fine.

Don't know what I would have done without it.

I purchased a generic and inexpensive car stereo kit including a new head unit. The new head unit was 1 DIN (2" x 7"). The factory original head unit was significantly bigger than the new one in both dimensions... Way too big for the cage that comes with most head units. My new stereo now fits flush in my car and looks nice thanks to this product.

There are only two mounting tabs necessary for use on the 97 Chrysler Cirrus, even though the manual on page 7 indicates that you will need 4 of them. This was easy to figure out since I had the previous head unit with me and it only had two screws.

When attempting to place the product in the car, at first it would not fit because the mounting tabs on the bottom needed to be completely removed, not just broken off at the right angle. This was the most annoying part, because I only had a knife and a wire crimping tool.

Things will go a lot smoother for you if you have a cutting tool with a wider mouth than most wire crimpers.

Aside: I noticed a discrepancy, on the packaging it states '1974-03' while the Amazon.com listing is '1974-04.' I didn't see any 03 or 04 listings in the manual, beware!

This product is ONLY for a Jeep Cherokee and WILL NOT FIT 2002 Jeep Liberty, and possibly others. The installation guide clearly states that it fits the 1974-2004 JEEP CHEROKEE only...

I purchased this kit to install a Pioneer head unit in my Grand Cherokee. I prefer the pocket style because I hate wasted space. Overall it works well and is pretty solid. My only gripe is that after being installed for a year now, the center is sagging just a tiny bit into the pocket. The weight of the head unit seems to be pushing it down. I use to keep my cell phone in the pocket but now it's a bit too small in the center. It really only makes a difference because the pocket is very small, they worked with what space they had though. Doesn't look like they could have made it any bigger. When I installed this kit, I drilled a hole in the back of the pocket for my AUX cable to run through. Worked out great! Now I use the pocket as storage for the cable when I'm not using it with my iPhone. Has a much cleaner look than having a cable hanging out. For the price, I certainly can't complain, you shouldn't either.
