5Finally half price for 1.4 gig camcorder disks, don't need finalizing!May 23, 2006
By Doc Terra "Nature Nut"
$1.50 disks!! Yeah!!! and the cure to bad mini-dvd disks is +RW

had a problem with dust, dirt or defects on disks in your sony mini-dvd camcorder? symptoms are you get a horrible message 13:c:02 and you lose all your pictures when you try to finalize it (or sometimes when taking pix it hangs so bad you have to take out battery because it can't write disk)

the sony 3.3 megapixel cam has unlimited storage - 1.4 gig = 1000 pictures, about a day of shooting, and way cheaper than memory stix - about 1/20th the price, plus you can keep these as an archive, don't need to ever erase the disks at this price. Just this one problem with bad disks.

The solution is mini DVD+RW disks. They don't need finalizing. Whatever pictures wrote OK are available even if you can't finalize disk. While not all dvd players except newer ones will accept this format, (and put them in a player you may still need to finalize them), they are the solution to lost pictures. - isobuster.com program MAY be able to recover some of these disks.

You can always transfer pictures and movies to your PC - plug in USB cable to camcorder and PC (you've already installed sony software), switch to preview pictures and the pc takes over. select all the pictures (from dvd tab, movies or stills) and click 'copy to hard disk'.

And while they're available in 3 packs (at $3 each), these bulk packs get you disks for $1.50 each. to cut down on shipping costs of about $12, order 4 packs of 10 at once. Computer brain shipped them real quick for amazon. Just to check them, I formatted them ahead of time, all 10, about 47 seconds each. No problems. Keep some extra soft sleeves or small or large cd-rom if you want to separate the disks to send someone.

I'm just finishing 1st 10 pack and no lost movies or pictures. Sorry I didn't know about them when mini DVD-R wiped out because of dust at San Antonio zoo..

3Not rewritable in Sony HandycamDec 19, 2006
By Jack Suber
As others have said and anyone can see, these are very inexpensive rewritable mini-dvds. They may be rewritable when using them to hold data in a computer but not in my Sony Handycam.

After using a disk in the Handycam, before the disk can be played in a simple dvd player the disk must be finalized in the camera. Using another brand of mini-dvds (JVC, much more expensive) the disks can later be rewritten or added to by telling the camera to "un-finalize" the disk. Using these Memorex disks the images are retained well enough but my Handycam cannot "un-finalize" the disks for rewriting. I can reuse the disk by reformatting but that, of course, necessitates deleting the information already on the disk.

So I give these three stars. On the plus side are the price and the fact that, like most rewritables, you can reformat them or delete the most recently shot image on the disk; but on the negative side is that they can't easily be reopened after finalizing to add new images.

5Great Buy!Aug 05, 2006
By Felix A. Dinielli
I use these in my new SONY 405, and they are great. The camera reminds you to use SONY discs, but despite the fact that I am a big SONY fan for the most part, their discs are expensive. These are a great buy thru Amazon.

1IncompatibleMar 28, 2007
By Nirnimesh
Make sure you know that these will work with your camcorder before buying. Apparently, they work fine with Sony camcorders (the packet too says so) but not with Canon. Also, it's incompatible with my new Panasonic camcorder too. Interestingly, it was displayed as a combo offer when I bought my Panasonic camcorder, which is the reason why I bought it anyway, but got duped.

1Not CompatibleMar 09, 2007
By Nancy J "NJ"
These discs do not work with my Canon Camcorder. I think the label should inform people they may not be compatible with certain devices.
