4Reliable Media with 1 little caveat....Jan 09, 2007
By J. Spires
I've been using Memorex printable DVD-R's for many years now. It is a reliable media for myself and my customer base who receives their projects on this media. Failures are a non-issue with my duplication systems, however I always urge people to test the equipment with a variety of discs before settling in with one brand. Memorex media works best with my systems. It may be the same or different for yours. Test, test, test.

The caveat to this media is this: there are two types of Memorex Printable DVD-R discs - discs with a printable matte finish, and discs with a printable glossy finish. For whatever reason, the packaging and SKU do not indicate the type of print finish in these spindles. BE WARNED: the glossy finish discs do not perform the same as the matte finished discs; I can successfully burn to a spindle of 100 matte discs without a failure, however it is 1 out of 3 glossy discs that fail. Why it is different, I've yet to contact Memorex.

If anyone knows how to identify the print finish on a spindle of 100 DVD-R's without opening the package, please list your findings. It will certainly help me and many others.

5Nice DealAug 10, 2006
By Drew D. Bartlett "menzo555"
Great price on this spindle of DVD-R's. Nice perk that I didn't realize was that these are hub-printable. The Printable surface goes all the way to the center. Makes for very legit looking dvd's.

5Memorex DVD discJul 04, 2006
By Billy A. Alonzo "5alonzos"
I have used about 10,000 Memorex DVD printable disc for various things that I have recorded and have had about 1% of them to be coasters. These disc are very dependable they playback on various dvd players and even on computer DVD-ROM. I have tried several other name brands and always comeback to using the Memorex. I have also tried these disc on several different DVD recorders and duplicators and they are consistly dependable. For the price they are the best DVD disc I have found. The printing also looks great.

5Good Quality & Reliable DVD-R BlanksOct 25, 2008
By Nuknuk
This is one of the several brands I find reliable for DVD-Rs. I barely find a coaster on the Memorex DVD-R's. It is as par as with the Maxells, Verbatim, Sony's and TDKs that I have used before. Try to stay away from unknown brands that is kind of a hit or miss.

This is the best way if you want to print your own titles and graphics. I use an old Epson R200 with a CD/DVD printer carriage. Using in combination with Paint Shop Pro editor, it works perfect. I stopped doing the stamp sticker label as it gives me problems with air bubbles and seems to make the DVD heavier to spin.

The thing with DVD's or CD's is that when you find a bad one, it seems to be bunched into the same stack as they were manufactured at the same place and at the same time. My recommendation is not to burn DVDs or CDs using the maximum speed, the chance of a bad burn tend to be much much less if you use the next slower speed indicated on the media. Same as filling up the data capacity, 4200mb seems to work best for me as filling up the DVD to the edge may become problematic.

1Poor quality controlAug 02, 2008
By D.E.Mc. "bowling nut"
I purchased these and found that within the same package there were disks of good quality and of poor quality. Over 30% of them (60%of those I used) either could not be written to or couldn't be printed on. The disk printing surface was obviously different from disk to disk. Some had a glossy surface which caused the printer ink to just lay in puddles on it and some worked a little better, having an almost matte surface, but not quite-the ink would print really lightly on them. Still others were a full matte surface and would print ok. I started using the ones with the matte surface and found many of them were defective-I couldn't burn to them-since I use them to store my own content or to burn movies that I create, it isn't an issue of restricted content. The disks themselves were defective. I now have more coasters than I will ever need.
