3well constructed but not usable with VistaMar 23, 2007
By John E. Metcalf
Unfortunately, Lenovo has not yet seen fit to release a Vista-compatible driver, so the laptop's keyboard and the numeric keypad's number lock feature are in sync under Vista. In other words, if you want to type numbers on the numeric keypad (why else would you buy it?) using Windows Vista, the portion of your laptop's keyboard that substitutes for a numeric keypad will also type numbers. Obviously, for quick data entry, it quickly becomes annoying to have to constantly toggle the "Num Lock" key.

Targus makes a similar keypad that does include a Vista driver to avoid this annoying behavior, so that you can input text on your laptop keyboard and numbers on your numeric keypad. It does not, however, have the standard 10-key layout, which is the feature I like most about this model.

Updated (Sept. 2007): Lenovo has released a Vista driver for this keypad, so it now works as it should. You can activate Num Lock on the keypad and still type properly on the laptop keyboard.

4Great Ergonomics on this KeypadOct 31, 2005
By C. Fisher
I have looked at the others, even bought a different one when I mistakenly thought it wouldn't work on an xp machine. I much prefer this style of keypad to the flat wafer looking ones on the market. For anyone used to a regular adding machine style calculator layout, this is the best one I've seen.

I think I have an older model but it looks exactly like this one. It says its a KU-9880.

Now, a usb hub would be a cool addition to it, but... I'll sacrifice it for the ergonomics.

5Works for an accountantAug 09, 2008

This keypad layout is the same as the keypad on desktop. Good touch and resistance. It is larger than many of the other numeric keypads but that is what makes it stable. I have only used it with XP and Windows 2000.

5Works great even on my Mac. What??? That's right!Mar 16, 2008

I was looking for a numeric keypad for my laptop that looked and felt like my desktop keyboard. After much research, I decided on this one. The keys are identical to my Dell Dimension desktop and I like the place at the bottom to rest the palm of my hand. I plugged this in to my Dell Inspiron laptop and it worked flawlessly after a few seconds. The buttons push with the same feel as my Dell desktop, which I enjoy. Smoothly and easily.
Next, I tried it on my Apple laptop. It was not recognized by Apple's installer program but after the installer quit, the keypad worked perfectly on my Mac as well. This is an IBM/Lenovo product so, there is no documentation or support for this but it works. I am using it on a PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz running Tiger 10.4.11. As a matter of fact, I am typing in this review on my PowerBook and using the keypad for all of the numbers in my review. This is an added bonus for Mac users. The price is right too.
Buy this one if you want a basic functioning keypad at a great price and not a lot of extra fluff.

3Does the job....with one minor irritantNov 17, 2010
By Thomas Boyle
Having decided to abandon my mouse and go "all-in" with the Thinkpad ultranav system, I bought this keypad to accompany the small external keyboard with trackpoint for my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop.
1. The keypad functions fine as PNP hardware with the computer.
2. Although both the keyboard and the keypad are supplied by Lenovo, they are not designed for integrated operation.
a. The footprint, thickness, and slope of the keypad does not align with the Lenovo keyboard in any way. Also the keys in this keypad have the deeper shape and longer stroke of a typical desktop keyboard (nothing like a Thinkpad). This is minor for me.
b. The computer is unable to distinguish between the NumLock key on the keypad and the NumLock key on the external laptop keyboard. The result is that you must toggle the NumLock key each time you switch back and forth between the keypad and keyboard. (Otherwise "lock" gets typed as "36c2"). This is irritating when entering mixed numbers and text, like addresses or formulas.
Overall this still beats using the top number row of the keyboard for routine data entry.
