I am an Industrial Firefighter and bought this knife thinking it was just what I needed to carry on the job. When it arrived in the mail I was excited to find that it felt as sturdy as people had boasted in reviews. I started using it my first day on shift, cutting lashing, chord, and zip ties throughout the day. It fell from my pocket, in the closed position, once from height of about four feet. Later on shift when I sat down to sharpen it, I noticed that two screws had become loose. One screw attached the thumb stud on the blade, and the other loose screw attached the seatbelt cutter. The loose seatbelt hook screw allowed the hook to deploy simply by flicking the knife. This was not what I was expecting from one day of useage in non-emergency mode. I have carried the same Benchmade brand knife for over four years, and used it for everything without it dissapointing me. It doesn't have the bells and whistles that I bought the Gerber for, but it never started falling apart on me. Undoubtedly this review is going to upset all the consumers who love this product, so dont start slamming me about how I dont know anything about knives. I'm simply giving an honest review of MY experience with the Gerber CLS.

I'm a firefighter and have already used this knife at one accident scene to cut the seat belt off an injured victim. This knife is tough, well made and has already proven it's worth to me and the others in my unit.

I am an EMT in Brooklyn, and just bought the knife because i had the money for it and it was pretty. Well my first Cardiac Arrest after i got it we needed to cut the shirt off and instead of digging for Shears I pulled out the knife and had the shirt off of the patient in under a second. It would have taken 8 - 10 seconds if I used the Shears. This knife is sturdy, Sharp and worth every penny especially if you are in the EMS field.

Great knife with secure mechanism. The large handle is very comfortable and the finger guard does the job of keeping your finger from the blade. However, I'm considering unscrewing the pocket clip and keeping it in a belt to make the grip even more comfortable. The hard metal blade is sharp, holds its edge and can take a beating. One small issue is that the black coating on the blade scratches off when contact is made with a hard surface. Overall I would recommend this folder for professionals (S&R, Military and Law Enforcement) and civilians (outdoorsman, survivalists, campers, etc).

I am an EMT, so this knife already has plenty of great features built in. I like it better than the original because it has a sharp point, and gives you more flexibility for cutting and piercing. As a tactical knife, the point is thick and strong, the grip gives great control in any type of hold as well as with gloves on, and the window punch adds an extra "kick" to a butt-strike. This is my new everday carry knife because of it's practicality. The price is also better than the original, probably due to the fact it doesn't come with the almost-useless tool kit and the sheath. I am considering getting a second one just to have a spare!
