Description:

Gerber LMF II Infantry Knife. The tactical edge to soldier on. Former military man, Jeff Freeman led the charge to engineer this fearless new 10" Survival Knife. And Gerber field-tested it with the troops. The result? A Knife as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. Use it to cut through the skin of a fuselage. Or sever a seat belt. Or egress through the Plexiglas of a chopper. Plus, the LMF II does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter. Roll call: Drop-point 420HC stainless steel serrated blade; Over-molded glass-filled nylon handle reduces blistering; Complete separation between the tang and butt cap allows the Knife to absorb the shock from hammering; Smartly situated grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear; Low-profile ballistic nylon sheath with fire retardant coating... quiet, easy-carry, attaches to a belt or MOLLE vest; Patented, integrated sharpener means edge retention in the field; 10 1/2" overall; 4 7/8" blade; 24 ozs. with sheath; 12 ozs. without sheath. 4Strong and useful.Dec 07, 2007
By Kurt A. Borzel "The Alberta Archer"
As a Forest Officer, I work and play in the wilds of Alberta, and have spent the majority of my life in an outdoor environment. I purchased this knife as a survival tool to attach to a MOLLE vest style survival kit.

The knife is well designed as a general purpose tool, and will function acceptably in various ways. This does not mean that the knife is designed to function superbly as a self defence weapon, a deer skinner, a hatchet or a hammer. Being designed to be multipurpose and to be abused, the knife is heavy and strong and stands up well to general purpose usage in the bush.

Specifically:
I have found the handle a bit large for my small hands (size 7) but not uncomfortably so. The blade length, depth and width are good. The blade shape is good and the drop point design protects the blade point. The serrations are better for cutting sinew than wood. The knife can chop wood, but I recommend a saw if you want to effectively cut wood. The blade will function as a skinner, but only acceptably, not perfectly. The knife is reasonably balanced and will not tire out your wrists through usage, though your hands will tire with continued use if you have small hands and must grip that much tighter to control the knife. I have not used the knife as a spear, though the design allows for that, as I am greatly concerned about losing the knife! If colour is a concern to you, there are 3 colours, grey-green (foliage green to the fine folks in the US Army), coyote brown (an excellent shade for autumn hunting) and black (good general purpose colour). I own the green and black colour variants.

As part of my job, I drive, fly in helicopters and spent hours and days many miles from assistance. Hunting and hiking take me many miles afield as well. This knife works well for me under these circumstances and will do the same for you.

5Great rescue knifeJul 16, 2007
By Harold M. Babin
The blade is suitable for any type of work. I am a hunter so it has seen some heavy duty work. I like the way the hilt is formed so it can be used to break car windows if necessary. The literature that it comes with says it can be used as a spear. The sheath also serves as a sharpening device. The grip is comfortable and does not slip in your hand.

5Outstanding!!Sep 21, 2007
By Jess Mcmurry
This is perhaps the best knife I have owned. Very rugged, hefty without being too much. Very well balanced. I use this for everything from hacking through brush to cutting cord and small trees (even up to 4"-no kidding!!) The sheath is great, though for non-military uses the double handle secure straps are a bit much, but I easily removed one. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

4great over allMar 24, 2011

i have owned this knife for about 2 years now and i love it.
pros: 1.sturdy as hell, you can literary smash rocks on the back of this knife to cut logs and it doesn't damage it at all.
2. the sheathe is nice and sturdy also. there are a few different ways of wearing, and i find that useful considering as a back packer sometime i have to move crap around. it also has a sharpener on it. which ive never had to use but when it does dull it will be nice.

cons: 1. heavy, like i said before this is a very sturdy knife. the trade of between weight and durability is defiantly shown in the design of this knife.
2. this is not a precision tool, for instance gutting a fish... not impossible but a pain in the ass.

5Good strong knife, best one I ownJun 01, 2008
By C. Lavin "CALBoxing"
I've been looking at this Gerber LMF2 knife for over a year now, I finally went ahead and bought one from Amazon - for the simple reason, the price being 35% less than anywhere else. This is by far the best knife I have ever owned, I own a large piece of land in Upstate NY bordering over 4000 acres of State Land and live there in a shelter built from the land. I live up there as much as 8 months a year --backwoods style. I have broken my share of knifes over the years, so I really use a knife.
