It does what you think it does. More expensive but better quality than 3rd party replacement batteries.

It's compatible with GPSMAP 278, 378, 478, 376C, 396 and 496.

Not same voltage as original Garmin 396 batteryFeb 26, 2012

The battery that was shipped to me says "7.4V" on the label. The original battery that came with my Garmin 396 says "8.4V" on the label. The battery fits the 396 and seems to power the unit, but the battery indicator on the 396 never indicates full even though the 396 reports "charging complete." It appear that the 396 can handle charging this lower-voltage battery, but the battery charge state indicator on the 396 will not show it as full.

I've flown with this a few times and it works great. My Garmin 496 lasts for 10-12 hours on this battery depending on backlighting and if I'm running an XM antenna. Good replacement for the cost.

on the page the item number is 010-10517-01 but when i got it ..it had another number which is 0110095502 ,,it came 7.4 not 8.4
finally it does not fit my device
