5amazing add on for youre rino!Oct 12, 2004
By Francisco Valenzuela "Paco"
I love this accesorie, I dont understand how garmin sell rinowith out it!

**Good things:
-it comes with two, so you could use one for serius propouse(black one, ideal for adding it on the central panel of the car).
-orange its ideal for outdoor life, if you drop youre rino you will find it so quick, or just for dont forget it on floor. it look so profesional.
-the lanyard its fine, works well
-strong drops are no matter to this accesorie, its a rino life saver!
-you could conect youre cable even with the bash added.

**Bad things:
-not exactly a bad thing but removing the bash guard its dificult, and you need to take it out for baterie exchange.(one thing for another)
-in wet places water stays between bash and rino, so the mud.

Dont think of it, if you have a rino just bought it.

3Bash Guard worksJan 10, 2007
By L. OTT
I put this bash guard through its paces in a Colorado elk hunt. It does its job for the most part, but has a couple of drawbacks. First, it does not protect the screen (perhaps the most sensitive portion of the device. Also, it is very difficult to get on and off of the device with the frequent battery changes.

4Looks Like A Great Product ... But I'm an Idot. Read on.Aug 01, 2008
By Michael Menninger "#1 Good Eats Aficionado"
Okay, this is my fault. Since the description just said "Garmin Bash Guard for Rino Series" I thought it would fit my Rino ... my Rino 530 HCx, that is. Oh, no, no, no. It will not.

Going back and reading the Technical Specs it clearly says which models of the "Rino Series" it fits. I understand this is my fault and now will lose money on my return.

So just beware, Rino 520 and 530 users. It's way too small. And Garmin doesn't make a Bash Guard (that I can find) that fits our model, sad to say.

Otherwise, it looks like it would have been a great thing for trekkin in the woods.

5Bash guard REALLY works!May 12, 2006
By Cielo Di Bend
I have dropped my Rino at least twice while on horseback (while moving quickly in poor terrain) and my Rino 120 has not been harmed, with thanks given to the bash guard. I use the orange cover so that if I do lose it, it's easy to spot either in sage brush or rock. My Rino is used in conjunction with search and rescue missions and personal riding trips. It has seen many miles in the past two years. The bash guard has been on it since the day I bought it and I have no regrets.

I'm not impressed with the tether and finally developed my own system to secure it to a saddle while still giving me full visibilty to the screen, and a secure mounting. (While riding horseback I do not want it bouncing around on my chest, so do not use it as designed.) In addition, the bash guard does fit tightly which makes changing the batteries a little more difficult, but I wouldn't give it up because of either of these reasons.

Although this product doesn't protect the screen, it fits well enough to prevent rubbing and is a bit more "skid" proof. Tends to stay where you put it. It needs to be removed to change the batteries, but it is pretty easy to do. I also tend to use these units on a bike, so it doesn't work with the holder with it on.
I think the major use is to change the color/look of the Rino, it makes it easier to visually see what unit it is without turning it on. I have used it a couple of times, will see how robust it is later...
