3Not the real McCoyJun 30, 2001

I bought two of these products about two years ago for use in a college portfolio class. Unlike its counterpart that's made by Iomega, the Fuji disks encountered problems reading some of my files when I used it on a Macintosh computer. Although I am aware of the hazards of using PC-formatted disks on other platforms, I didn't expect the problems that I had with these disks. When the Macintosh read the disks, some of the files would flicker in and out and were hard to access. After putting them back in a PC, I noticed there were additional files added to my disk (which were hidden on the Macintosh), with names that were nothing more than gibberish. Assuming that the files were causing the problems, I deleted them. However, the problems persisted and I replaced it with an Iomega ZIP disk.

Now, I'm not saying that the disks were bad, for the problems could have been external. However, it did make a bad first impression on me, and because of my profession, I will no longer buy these disks if I'm working on a project that requires multi-platform capability. However, for use at home, where I own a PC, the Fuji disk is adequate.

ADDENDUM - Almost three years after writing the original review for this item, I bought another Fuji ZIP disk at a local discount store. Never intending to use it on a MAC, I found myself having to rely on it recently during a class that I'm taking in Macromedia Flash. Yesterday, when I put the disk into the MAC, it responded with a message that it didn't recognize some of the volumes on the disk. After rebooting, the disk opened and everything was fine. However, the Fuji's performance wasn't reassuring and I will be replacing it with an Iomega disk.
