4Fellowes Designer Suites Desk Ready Keyboard Drawer (8038301)Mar 25, 2009
By John Guarino
Yesterday I purchased this keyboard drawer from a local merchant. Lower price here from seller other than amazon, but shipping so exorbitant, it was less expensive to buy locally.

Set up went well. Instructions were decipherable. The unit seems sturdy enough. It's quite large, taking up more desk width than its stated dimensions. The suspension mechanism causes it to need almost 34 inches side to side. The exterior width of the drawer itself is 28 inches. The interior width of the well of the tray, where the keyboard and mouse lie, is 25 1/2 inches. The well's depth is 10 inches.

My microsoft 4000 ergonomic keyboard fits easily into the width of the drawer and there's plenty of space for the mouse. My ergo keyboard depth is a bit long for the interior well of the drawer. The ergo keyboard's depth is 10 1/2 inches at its deepest. This was easily worked around, by placing a foam wrist rest under the far edge of the ergo keyboard, another under the close edge. I'm finding that when I'm typing, I pull the ergo keyboard a bit closer to me, so that its close edge is lying upon the foam wrist rest of the Fellowes drawer, all the way at its nearest edge.

The built in mouse pad is okay. It's fine for my apple optical mouse. The width and depth of the mouse area is larger than the tray of the keyboard drawer that this Fellowes drawer replaces. And I don't have to reach lower for the mouse as its on the same level as the keyboard.

So I think this keyboard drawer is a pretty good product. I can live with its extra wide dimension, as I didn't need to be filling screw holes and drilling new holes in the underside of my computer desk. The runner mechanism of the drawer as I slide it toward and away from me feels pretty smooth. Nothing that would suggest problems in the immediate future.

5Very nice, easy installation and study!Sep 14, 2009

After going through almost all the keyboard drawers listed on Amazon, I finally decided to go with this one and I am not disappointed.

The installation is easy, no screws and no drilling. Just assemble the pieces and clamp the whole unit under the desk and u got urself a study kb drawer. Its especially nice that the tray sloped down towards the back, which allows me to type comfortably without raising my wrists in an awkward angle. Which is very nice when used in combination with the MS ergo keyboard. The only complain I have is the mouse pad is a little small, but mind u its already bigger than a lot of the kb trays out there.

So far I am very happy with the purchase, it feels very sturdy. The keyboard doesn't bounce around like other lower priced trays. Conceal nicely underneath the desk. No complains at all, worth every pennies!!

4Fellowes Designer Suites Desk Ready Keyboard Drawer (8038301)Dec 27, 2009

It's amazing how good this tray is considering there is no need to screw anything in. Installing this tray only takes a few mins and it's very stable (there are no issues with movement in both standard day to day use and gaming).

You need a fairly wide space for it to fit as the tray itself is wide and the clamps are on each end of the tray (as long as you have 34inch or more you will be fine).

The only reason I didn't give this tray 5 stars is because of the mouse area. It's a little small and it sites below the wrist guard (which some may like but I do not). Because its a little small I'm having a tough time finding a better mouse pad for my laser mouse that will both fit and raise that space up).

Bottom line is this tray is perfect if you have the space (34" or more) and you want something that is a cinch to install.

Unfortunately, if you have a smaller desk like I do, this tray will not fit. I only found this out after I ordered the product. The specs do not tell you how much space you need for it and the sliding mechanism extends well beyond the keyboard tray. However, it does look to be a sold well constructed product. They just need to provide more information on it up front.

1bouncy bouncy, swing, drop, blopAug 15, 2010

MOST IMPORTANTLY: I ordered this product on July 18, 2010. The last day to return this product was August 30, 2010. THIS PRODUCT BROKE ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2010. NOW, I'M TOLD THAT I AM SCREWED The idea is you are able to slide the drawer forward and backward, under UNDER your desk top. On 9/8/2010 it was back under the desk, and when I pulled it forward it slide right but never stopped. Keyboard and mouse were on the floor, tray fell from my hands on top of keyboard and mouse, and the clamps holding it on were swinging in the wind. The metal slider bar just broke.

I purchased this Fellowes Designer Suites Desk Ready Keyboard Drawer because I am unable to attach one with a drill. The description was ideal, so I paid 72 bucks ... 78 with shipping. It was easy enought to assemble and attached. It has three levels for the drawer to hang from, and the inside of the tray has three levels to raise or lower the tilt of the keyboard. It is wide enough for a keybaord and mouse to sit comfortable inside.

Now, the tray has it's own wrist rest which takes up approximately three inches. There is approximately seven inches for keyboard, which sits behind the wrist rest in a box-like setting. That box-like setting sits approximately one inch deep to allow three degrees of tilting. When you place the keyboard in the box, the wrist rest sits extremely high, and the keyboard sits very low and far back. (THE WRIST REST SHOULD BE OPTIONAL.)

I've attempting using every combination of every setting. Placing the tray high, medium and low, and adjusting the inside at every level of tilt, but it is very uncomfortable and causes pain in my hands, wrist and arms. I placed some books inside the box to raise it high enough to be even with the wrist rest so I am able to type on the keyboard. Unfortunately, the tray extends only 10 inche beyond the desk top, and since the wrist rest takes up over three inches, the back of the keybaord sits is under the desk top. If you have the tray raised to the highest level, you cannot fit your fingers under the desktop to access the Fkeys.

The brackets are very UNstable, so as you type on the keyboard it bounces. If you pull the drawer out to far enough to access the back of the keyboard the tray drops down a level and is lopsided. The back of the the brackets just swing back and forth, there is nothing to stabilize them.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attach this to my desk immediately, and now the time has past for me to be able to return it. I told my friend about the no-tool drawer because she wanted to purchase one for her desk too. Now, after she has tried it out, she decided it was crap and certainly not worth even a fraction of what I actually paid..

The brackets should have a rod that connects them in the back so they don't slide around allowing the drawer to swing, slip and drop. The inside box should allow you to raise it and lower it, in addition to providing a tilt. The base for the wrist rest should NOT be raised more than an inch high, it's not a natural or comfortable postion.

Before you purchase one on line, find a store to test ride this contraption. I'm certain you'll run in the opposite direction and save yourself a bundl of money.

Fellows, please keep working on the NO-TOOL Drawer, but put a tad more money in the "testing" before you take peoples money for a substandard piece of merchandise. This does NOT do your reputation any justice.

If anyone out there has a better No-Tool installation drawer, please let me know.. I'm in the market for one.
