2Caution - product may shift when reordered!Sep 16, 2009
By Joshua W. Burton
This has been my favorite wrist rest for about 12 years now; I've owned two identical ones, each of which gave wonderful service until the spandex gradually delaminated from the top and the rubber backing gradually got stiff and cracked.

Knowing exactly what I was getting, I reordered on the web with confidence. Surprise! Same product number, same product description, but the new Fellowes 91737 gel wrist rest is not the one I've owned and loved. It's about 40% thinner, considerably stiffer and harder, has a very smooth semisticky back that adheres to the table and gives off the unpleasant smell other reviewers have alluded to, and (worst from my perspective) has a hard rubber or plastic rim under the spandex which seems to contain the gel, but forms a hard sharp spot against my wrists when the gel is compressed.

I'm going to give the new rest a couple of months' fair trial, but I can already tell you I don't warm to it. Note that the photo, here on Amazon and elsewhere on the web, is of the old 91737 design. The difference is subtle but unmistakable; the new one looks much "neater" and lacks the slightly bulbous ends and the flat seams sticking out all around. My complaint is picky and small, and I don't expect redress from either Amazon or Fellowes, but after all the whole product is about a picky, small matter of comfort, so let other buyers beware. I don't know when the silent product change occurred, but the abrupt drop in customer ratings is visible here, and probably dates the event.

If you do buy this product, I urge you to try it in a physical store -- the sort of minor product change that bit me here is exactly the worst-case risk for online commerce, and until manufacturers and retailers can protect picky customers from this kind of sloppy practice, picky customers should shop defensively.

5THE GREATEST COMFORT ON EARTHMar 18, 2000
By Richard Bottner
This wrist rest in extremely wonderful! Before I got this my wrists were in great pain but now the pain has gone away. The gel inside of the wrist pad is very soft and your wrist practically sinks into it when you use it. If you need more comfort at work or at home when you type, this is definitly the answer.

5simply the bestMay 17, 2001

As a programmer, I've had wrist problems for years (carpal tunnel, tendonitis, etc.), so this area is very important to me. I've tried a lot of wrist pads over the years, and this guy is the best I've found so far. (1) The gel has just the right amount of give (2) It's got a nice traction cross-hatch on the bottom so it doesn't slip all over the place. (3) It's very durable - I've had a lot of problems with the covers fraying off on cheaper pads, no problem with this guy.

4What the doc ordered, if a little awkward to useDec 01, 2001
By Tracy Rowan "dargelos"
Thanks to a severe flare-up of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I found myself in a lot of pain after a day of typing. I finally broke down and bought wrist wrests for both my keyboard and my trackball, and I'm glad I did even though both took some major getting used to. The keyboard rest is great in most respects, but for me it has two drawbacks: It could be a bit longer, and it pushes the top of my keybard up under my desk (I have a pull-out shelf arrangement.) Neither is the fault of Fellowes necessarily, and I mention it only to alert anyone who has a very wide or deep keyboard to these possible (minor) problems. I do find, however, that the rest isn't quite high enough for me to avoid some stressing of my wrists.

On the plus side, it's got a backing that's so extremely non-skid that you have to lift it up to move it. And the gel is loads of fun to play with while you're thinking. I find myself pinching and poking it, and wondering how long it can take that sort of punishment before it breaks or tears. I don't recommend this sort of behavior, but if you're prone to it, this might well give some scope to your nervous figets.

1Not the product shownDec 22, 2010
By Gregory A Jordan
After ordering this product, a direct replacement for the one I currently own, I was amazed that the wrist rest I recieved was different. It's shorter (only about 18" long), thinner, and substantially harder than my old wrist rest. The old one was very compliant and "sqishy". This one is hard, almost like rubber, with very little give to it. I called Fellowes and waited on hold for about 15 minutes while a rep looked into it. The 91737 model was changed in September 2009 to the current incarnation, which is NOT the same as previous versions. Note... Same part number. Personally, I'm disappointed since I now need to return the product and will probably be forced to visit brick and mortar stores to look for a replacement that offers the same comfort and capability of the old version. If they made substantial changes to the product like this, there should have been a change to the part number/model number to prevent exactly what I am going through now. Very unhappy with this purchase.
