5Great cooler, must remove board to install in most casesApr 28, 2008

This is a great cooler, I recently dropped in a Q6600 to replace my overclocked E6600. Everything went well and the Q6600 was able to hit 3.6ghz easy (400x9). The only problem was that the quad core put a lot more strain on the FSB than the dual core so the northbridge was getting too hot, which was causing some instability at high load.

Actually installing this thing did not lower my idle temps very much (maybe 2-3C, idling at 38C now, was around 40) but the temperature raise under load has been dramatically improved. With the stock NB heatsink (fanless Gigabyte 965p-ds3) my load temps would be in the high 50C range, now they are around 43C, only a slight raise above the idle temp! And the system is stable at 3.6ghz now thanks to this little beast =)

The only thing to watch out for when installing this is to be sure to tighten it to the motherboard enough. When I first installed it was not tight enough and it actually was worse than the stock heatsink. I then tightened it so the top of the screw almost pokes out of the top of the fastening nut and everything works perfectly.

5Easier to install than expectedJan 02, 2008

I got the Extreme Spirit II when I found that the passive heatsink I installed on the chipset was running very hot. It was hot enough to feel burning to the touch. The Extreme Spirit II came with all the accessories and screws needed for my motherboard. Since my board already had loop holes built in next to the chipset I just had to hook it on and tighten. The fan fun whisper quiet next to my loud Coolit Eliminator.

5Overclockers dream!!!Feb 08, 2007
By David M. Esquivel "Fungusboy"
If your an overclocker who brings it to the extreme, this is an absolute must. I have a Core 2 Duo E6300 from its stock speed of 1.84GHz, to its new overclocked speed of 3.03GHz! Its not just the CPU that gets hot, the Northbridge chipset (Which controls stuff like the Graphics card, RAM, stuff like that) does too! Pure copper with the power of 2 heatpipes and thin fins brings the northbridge chipset over 10* C less heat when using Arctic Silver 5 as the thermal compound. Oh, and the fan is great! you can't even hear it! Plus the blue fan makes for a really nice color show! The blue is not a light blue, more a dark blue. Easy to install, good instructions, great quality!

4Works Great if You Have the SpaceMar 17, 2010

I recently purchased an Asus CG5290 i7 920 based system to use as cheap parts in the building of a new gaming rig.
The mobo included is a stripped down version of the Asus Rampage II Gene Micro ATX. The Northbridge temps on even the stock version with
a huge integrated heatpipe are very high, so you can imagine the heat coming off the stripped down version with only a small passive aluminum NB heatsink.

I popped on the Spirit II due to it's integrated fan and ability to be installed in any orientation up to 360 degrees due to the round base.
Installation was relatively easy, though the slot and tab screw downs can be tricky to secure at some angles.
The unit will fit in practically any orientation but will be incredibly close to touching a video card in the first PCIe slot.

The main issue with the unit is space availability with certain CPU cooling solutions. Many larger coolers may be totally incompatible
with this unit due to your specific directional orientation (i.e. the unit will optimally be faced so that it's exhaust air is directed toward an exhausting case fan).
The Spirit II fan actually sticks out farther from dead zero center than the fins do so you have a lopsided hunk of metal which may or may not fit in the proper orientation.
If you own or are upgrading to an oversized tower type cpu cooler, especially with top/bottom dual fans you may want to take special note of this fact. For some top/bottom fan tower installs the Noctua NC-U6 passive fin cooler may be a better solution and would work in conjunction with your CPU cooler fans to provide similar thermal results to the Spirit II.

Overall the Extreme Spirit II cools very nicely and is super easy to install/uninstall/reinstall. If you have the space for it this is an awesome product.

Install was not for somebody who is clueless in the tech field. I had no problems. Works like a charm and I can now rest in peace knowing my northbridge is properly cooled. It has a cool blue glow to boot.
