5Essential empower to cigarette adapter for Targus and other power adaptersNov 21, 2010

If you are flying on an airline with emPower in seat power (e.g., United), and your power adapter has cigarette lighter connector but no emPower plug, (e.g., some of the current Targus universal adapters), then this is essential. Used this on 13 hour flight to Beijing recently with great results. Cheap, very small, works well.

Unless you have an all-in-one power adapter with an airplane jack connector, this is the only way you are going to be able to get power for your laptop on commercial airlines. Note that not all planes have power connections, but for those that do, this item works well. You of course will also need the correct car adapter (cigarette lighter plug in type) for your laptop. With that and this Empower adapter, you will have some extra gadgets to carry, but you will be able to get power. Personally, I prefer a high capacity battery, like those 8-cell types that can give you 8-10 hours on a netbook, but sometimes you just need to plug it in....

Although it turned out I did not need the item. It was exacltly what I asked for.

The planes I traveled used the standard US AC 115V and did not use the Enpower as indicated on the web sites.

would seam to work well, never actually got to use it though :O all the planes i have flown on didnt have this "airline plug" but it fit well to my car adapter :)

I got this in order to power my I pad while flying back and forth to Hawaii from the East Coast. I read the reviews and had done some research about Empower on certain planes. But obviously I did not do a thorough job in my research. The Empower plugs on planes (767 is what we flew on) are only in the first class section. I obviously did not fly first class, therefore I was unable to use this. This did not affect me using my I pad on the plane. I had enough battery power to last the whole flight. Just and FYI in case you are considering getting one. I found a website called seat guru that explained where the empower plugs are on certain planes. Check that site out first to see where they are and if you will be sitting in that area, buy the Empower Adapter and enjoy!
