Unlike the other review I had no issues with this pen. A quick test on a sheet of paper and a dollar bill revealed that it does what it's supposed to. Yes it's cheap but this isn't a complicated pen. Buy enough Bic pens at walmart and you will run into rejects too. I doubt it lasts for years but at $5 you can afford to buy one every once and a while if you need to.

So if you are going to have a garage sell or list items on craigslist you owe it to yourself to have one of these on hand. Why take the risk of counterfeit money when the solution is so cheap? Quick and easy to use. Immediate result. Trust but verify.

Pen is a standard detector, only to help you make a wise decision, but i have come across bills that looked absolutely suspicious (thin and light as a wafer) and yet passed the pen test. Use these detector pens at your own discretion. The tip is thin, not like like fat sharpie tips, much thinner. It works, unless you have an advanced counterfeit bill that can pass the test.

This product does what it says. I don't have any complaints about it, though I did write on a cardboard box with it the other day (didn't have any other pens) and it stayed yellow, which I thought was sort of contrary to the point... Still, I've not had an issue with it since I got it.

For less than $3, this was a cost-effective investment for my spate of selling on Craig's List. I tested the pen on currency vs. several types of regular paper and was able to tell by the color of ink what was correct paper vs. "counterfeit."
After using this on all of the $20s in my wallet, I haven't found any counterfeit bills yet, so no real-life proof - but maybe that's a good thing.
One note: as far as I know this pen will not protect you against bleached bills (i.e. $1s re-printed to look like $20s or higher), so be sure to look for the security strip / watermark in US currency.

I haven't owned this long enough to comment on durability, but it's going strong on weekly uses for the first month.

For the price, I'd definitely recommend this item, especially if you are planning on engaging in cash transactions in the future.
