4A solid 4 stars, good for the money!Dec 20, 2005
By Nicola Havens "Nicola Havens"
Overall I like this vac for the price. It is not comparable to it $200 counterparts, but for the $69 I paid for it, it was well worth the money. I think this vac is comparable to vacs in the $80 or less range.
PROS: I have a bad back so I love that it is so light and easy to move. Empting it is so easy, just press one little button and your done. I also like how they separated the filter area from the dust area so you don't have to shake out the filter each time you use it. It works great for places like the bathroom where there are bath mats; it goes right onto them without sucking up the corners or chewing up the rug. It is low profile so it goes under furniture and around items very easy. The cord retractor works great, I have never used a cord retractor that actually works all the way to the end, but this one does!
Cons: The vacuum head is a little cheap; it feels flimsy and has a hard time on carpet. The spinning head is moved by the suction, not by the motor, so it doesn't spin very well on carpet, you have to baby it a bit. It does have a hard time picking up small thing, you have to pick up the head and put it right over the object, then it will pick it up.
If your house has wall-to-wall plush carpet this vac is not for you. It has a very hard time rolling on thick carpet. If you have almost all hardwoods like me, it is great. I have 2 boys and a black lab so we put our vac to good use in our home.
If you are looking for a very nice sturdy vacuum that is quality made you are going to have to spend more money, but if you want something that will get you by for a few years while you are saving up for that Dyson, this is a good bet.

1Don't Buy It !Apr 18, 2007
By Prof2U "Septimus"
I bought this vacum at Target nearly six months ago. It has a very strong suction, and runs relatively quiet, but it cost a fortune to maintain! The root cause for this maintainence is that Dirt Devil designed this machine to use the Hepa filter as a vacum bag. All the dirt raps itself around the filter until its completely crapped up, and if you use it beyond that stage it will completely shut-down. I call customer service about it, and they recommended that I clean the filter more frequently. Which I now do, but I still have to replace the filter on average once every 2 months or else I'm force to breath all the fine particles that the Hepa is suppose to protect me from. The cost of each filter is an appauling $30 bucks. My car filter doesn't cost more than $7 dollars. At this rate I've already bought the vacum cleaner within my six months of use. Save yourself the hassel. Don't buy it!

4Great for the price, great for floors.Feb 19, 2006
By J. McNew
I just bought this vacuum a few days ago, but I am really fond of it. My entire house is vinyl tile except for a few throw rugs. Uprights have never been good for me, since the rotating brushes tend to throw dust around on a bare floor.

This Dirt Devil comes with two different heads: one for bare floors, and one for carpet -- with a rotating brush that is powered by suction instead of a motor.

I vacuumed my entire house with the bare floor head and it worked great! This vacuum is quieter than I expected for a sub-$100 unit, and had more suction than I expected.

Emptying the reservoir is simple... a touch of a button! I have terrible dust allergies, so I can honestly tell you that the HEPA filtration seems to work perfectly on this little vacuum.

You can store the vacuum sitting down or on it's end. It takes up very little room in my closet. The only complaint I have is that the cord isn't as long as I would like... only 15 feet. fortunately, I have electrical outlets every four feet in my house!

I recommend this vacuum for anyone with lots of hard floors in their house.

4picture is not quite accurateOct 17, 2006

It's a nice little vacuum for the price. As expected, the carpet brush isn't really powered. But more to the point, the illustration shows the rear wheels as red plastic with a black rubber outer rim. This is *not* the case: the wheels are all-red and all-plastic, and I don't think I'd be comfortable using this on a wooden floor becuase of scratching.

4Piece of garbage!May 28, 2007
By anonymous
15 June 2009 (0 stars)

Piece of crap. Broke early. Gave it to Goodwill.

----
27 May 2007 (formerly 4 stars)

Once upon a time, I had dismal experience with a Hoover upright.

So I bought a Bissell 6700 Butler Revolution canister vacuum cleaner, and LUVed it. However, it developed a fatal flaw: it overheated -- it couldn't expel (motor) heat fast enough. It overheated often and fast, rendering it unusable. When it did run, it was perfect. It lasted about 1.5 years. It had bags, but I loved that darn machine. Best little vacuum I ever had.

Then, I bought a Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Turbo upright bagless vacuum cleaner for (...)(still being sold) -- things went wrong left and right -- regretted this purchase -- waste of money -- piece of junk. It was big, heavy, bulky and expensive. Before things went drastically wrong with it, my cleaning lady bought a slightly different model for herself (Deluxe); different color but same machine -- things went wrong left and right with hers too -- a 2nd piece of junk. I gave her mine for free, and between the two machines, her hubbie was able to cobble together a workable machine. She now has one workable machine with lots of extra parts (for the next time it breaks). Both mine and hers lasted less than a year before they both broke down.

I think the various manufacturers create vacuum cleaners that have a high probability of breaking between one and two years. Long enough so that a vacuum cleaner is out of warranty, but soon enough that you have to buy a new vacuum cleaner. Planned obsolescence. After that crappy Bissell experience, I swore that I would never pay more than (...) for a vacuum cleaner!!!! Just because a machine is expensive does NOT guarantee that it'll run any better or any longer than a cheap one. My motto: BUY CHEAP. I also swore to have TWO different model vacuum cleaners on hand for when one breaks. I also swore to get only bagless units for then on.

So, autumn 2006, I bought two machines:

(main) ... Dirt Devil 082660 Vision Turbo canister bagless vacuum cleaner. Had it for several months. Except for the too-short 15-foot cord and its pain-in-the-butt-to-clean HEPA filter, it's quite nice. In an outdoor garbage, it takes about 10 minutes to thoroughly clear the HEPA filter of the dust and hair it catches, which is livable. I have several longhair cats, and it does fine there. I have n wall-to-wall carpeting. I have lots of throw rugs, and it does fine there too. It looks like the newer model 082700 is the same as the 082660 except with a 20-foot cord. I give the 082660 4 stars because of its short cord. Instead of model 082660, get model 082700 which, assuming that it is the same as the 082660 + longer cord, I'd rate (...).

(backup) ... Bissell 3108 bagless EasyVac (6 amps). It's what I'd call a cross between an "upright vacuum cleaner" and "electric broom." It has the light weight of an electric broom, but acts like an upright. For 6 amps, it's a hard worker, and far better than the piece-of-crap Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Turbo Deluxe upright bagless vacuum cleaner for $(...). Does just fine with the above-mentioned cat fur and throw rugs! I don't know why Bissell discontinued it -- maybe they want you to buy one of THEIR big, heavy, bulky and expensive upright vacuum cleaners -- don't fall for it. I give it 5 stars.

For the time being, between these two vacuum cleaners, everything is fine. Now I have to wait to see if either breaks down in under two years. If either lasts five years, I'll be ecstatic.
