Description:

The DWL-P200 Power over Ethernet Adapter provides DC power to a network device, such as a wireless access point or Internet camera. The DWL-P200 can send power over a standard Cat5 Ethernet cable for distances up to 328 feet (100m). Using a single Ethernet cable that delivers both data and power eliminates the need to connect your Ethernet-enabled device directly into a power outlet. Power over Ethernet technology gives you greater freedom in device placement and easier cable management.

3Compatiblity AlertDec 31, 2007
By Arthur P. Steinmetz
This product is not 802.3af PoE compliant. That means you must use the included terminal unit with the included base unit. If you get a PoE switch later on it will not work with the terminal unit. Why they did it that way, heaven knows. Given that, you might as well hack splitters on both ends yourself and save some money. No electronics would be involved just wiring in the AC adapter at the base end and wiring in the connector at the terminal end using the unused cat5 pair. With a long cable run the device might not work but you've got nothing to lose.

5Have over 7 sets in useDec 10, 2006

This is an Ideal POE adapter I have about 7 of these powering up my wireless APs in my network It is rock solid and reliable. I have 3 in outdoor locations one for over 2 years now and others in home and barn locations with no problems. Really Like these they are problem solvers. My longest link is a dwl-2100ap at the end of a 200 foot cat 5e run through the woods inside a rootenna from fab corp

5this saves a lot of timeApr 14, 2008

I am using this to power a network camera out in the front of my house. It makes it possible to run just one cable to the unit. No power near the item you want to power, no problem. just make sure the item runs on either 5v or 12v DC..

4Easy and fast way to reduce wire clutterMay 02, 2009
By John F. Ryan "ryanjo"
Installation went without a hitch, excellent directions. My reason for 4 stars is that the power adapter cord to the device that you are powering thru this system only has one size of "barrel plug", about 3mm. Fortunately it fit my Netgear WGR614 wireless G router, but some newer routers (such as the popular D-link DIR-855) have a larger power port, and no adapter is included in this kit. Also make sure that your device to be powered thru this adapter is either 5V DC (2.5A) or 12V DC (1A), which are the only two outputs that can be selected. D-link also cautions that the device must be "compliant with IEEE 802.3af standard", meaning that the data is transmitter through the 1,2,3,6 wires of the ethernet cable and power through 4,5,7,8 wires (this is the most common wiring configuration).

2Does not work with Gigabit!Sep 12, 2011
By Michael Bronner
I reviewed te tech specs on this item carefully before buying. The technical descriptions do not state any bandwidth limitations, only that CAT5 wiring is supported. Upon installation, and reviewing the fine print on the last page of the manual, it turns out that this device does in fact not support 1000Mbps connections.
It will work fine for normal use around the house, but if you are looking specifically for high-speed networking devices, don't get this one. Calling D-Link customer service was a load full of wasted time. The representatives have no technical knowledge, don't the the device from another, and generally give incorrect information. Even speaking with a supervisor was highly disappointing. As a result, I will stay clear from D-Link going forward.
