5Best Crock PotJul 13, 2007
By Paula
I have this Crock Pot but my crock insert is white instead of black. I bought this slow cooker probably in the late 1990s. I own three slow cookers (the Rival 3-1/2-quart oval and the Rival 6-quart), and this is the best one and the one I use the most. It is 2-1/2 quarts and is perfect for two people. It cooks the best out of all three of my slow cookers as it does not overcook the food as the other two will. I find that the cooking times listed in most slow cooker cookbooks are very accurate for this Crock Pot, but for my other two larger models, I must reduce the cooking time. I have never had overcooked food in this slow cooker. Everything has always cooked to perfection. Most recipes in slow cooker cookbooks are written for 6 to 8 servings. If I cut the recipes in half, they will fit perfectly in this Crock Pot and fill it 3/4 full. That is just enough food for my husband and me and will usually leave leftovers for one or two more meals for one person. This slow cooker also looks very nice as it is all white and matches my kitchen, so it is always out on the counter. I use it many times a week and I am very happy with it. Since it cooks at such a low temperature, whenever I cook meat, I use the high setting for the first hour and then reduce it to low and cook for one hour less than the stated recipe (since one hour on high is equal to two hours on low). Everything turns out perfectly this way. The potatoes and carrots are perfectly tender and have not cooked down to mush as has happened in my larger, more powerful Crock Pots.

I highly recommend this model if the size is big enough for you because it works the way slow cookers are supposed to work - cooking the food slowly and gently.

5TASTY FOOD GREAT CROCKPOTNov 30, 2003
By Monica S. Holmes "Monica"
Just bought this crockpot this weekend or actually on Black Friday 2003, it was inexpensive and it is a great way for me to learn how to cook for one instead of making large meals and having to freeze a ton of food.

A great crock pot if you are cramped on space i.e. apartment, studio, small townhouse, cape cod living. Doesn't take up much room and can fit a decent size portions of food in the crock pot.

Makes flavorful food...delicious....the toughest of cuts turn out perfection!

3Cut cooking times on recommended recipes in half.Feb 12, 2008
By Steph
I purchased this small, 2.5 quart crock pot for my college apartment, and am storing a larger one at my parents' house. The larger crock pot of the same brand is extremely useful and has never given me any trouble.

However, this smaller crock pot heats up very quickly, and will usually cook food in half the time the larger crockpot will. Of course this makes sense due to the decreased surface area of ceramic to heat, but I hadn't thought of that, and I wish I had known this before I purchased this product.

When I checked on my first overnight oatmeal in this pot after four hours of cooking (recommended cooking time: 8 hours), all of the liquid was gone. In another hour or two, it would have been burnt. Fortunately, adding more water did the trick and it was able to cook the oatmeal without further incident.

Basically, because of how quickly this pot heats up this is a good product only if you can check on it every three or four hours or so while cooking. Otherwise, purchase a larger model, especially one with a "keep warm" function.

5Absolute Wonder!May 10, 2004
By C. Cauthron
I had one of these for over 10 years and it never gave me a day's trouble. The only reason I purchased a new one was that the old model did not have a removable crock. Fantastic addition to the small family's kitchen.

1Fast Cooker - Do not leave on while at work!Jul 21, 2009
By AAA
I will be returning this soon. It cannot be left on while at work or overnight.

I filled it up with bbq sauce and 4 chicken breasts. 8 hours later on "low" the chicken was brown and black, and the sauce was boiling rapidly.

Tried the same thing with ribs, but this time I checked on them. The pot was filled to the top with ribs and sauce, set to low. 4 hours later the ribs were well-done and dry. Any longer would have burned them.

Frozen chicken wings and bbq sauce burned after 4 hours on "high".

Tried leaving pot on "low" while at work. I filled it with frozen vegetables, 2 diced potatoes, and a chopped-up steak. Upon arriving home 10 hours later, the vegetables were fused into a brown mush that did not look like vegetables, the potatoes were brown, and the meat was black. Nothing was edible.
