5My daughter loved it!Nov 30, 2006
By Rachel's Mom "Tracy"
My daughter bought this with her own money. She love to create and her favorite art project is pottery. A kiln is out of the question for home, so this was just the right solution. She created many little pots and dishes and painted them for her family and friends. A great craft idea, little mess, lots of imagination.

5Good valueFeb 15, 2010

This is a lot of clay for a little money. So far, we've made two handprint "plates" for family and friends, but there is plenty left over to make figurines, too. It took about 4 days for the handprints to fully dry. I had expected this to be the lightweight "air" clay, but that's not what it is-- it's heavy, and you need to add water to it to make it really moldable, but it works well and dries well, and you can paint it afterwards. Good for creative little ones.

5Easy and FunFeb 20, 2010

My 6-year-old asked me to write this review. She loves this clay because it is easy to make things and they dry easily as well. She wants 10 pounds of the clay for her birthday.

5good productJul 16, 2010

my family loves this clay. it is such a breeze to dry, only taking a day or two, depending on the amount used. it is harder to work with than play dough though, requiring a bit of clay skill. my 6 year old, who does not care for having to roll with lots of pressure to shape it, thought it to be too much work. but i think it was a touch of being lazy :- ) .....i would not purchase for a first clay for kids, but rather let them use an easier dough, and then graduate to this after some practice on the softer varieties.
when properly rolled and manipulated (no cracks) it dries quite sturdy. my little one was not pleased at how hers fell apart and mine stayed together when dried, but that was not fault of the product, but lack of experience on my kid's part.
a great buy!

2disappointedNov 12, 2011

I got the Crayola air dry clay for use with 8 and 9 year old girls. I was happy with it straight out of the box because it is very easy to work with. The girls made two different kinds of projects: smallish 'free form' where they could do whatever they wanted. There were some basket/pots, flat shapes, and figurines. They also did a project where they made a skeleton/support out of crushed aluminum foil and then put a fairly thick clay 'skin' over it to make different kinds of animals, which they painted when they dried. This clay cracks when it dries. It doesn't matter if it is thick or thin, large or small, flat or in the round. And it is fragile. These were definitely handle-with-care projects when they were done. The aluminum skeleton helped hold on legs which had cracked all the way around. We were able to mend some pieces with tacky glue. The only plus, besides ease of use, was that it took the paint well. We used acrylic. Personally, I will be looking for an alternative next time I do sculpture with kids.
