5Works Great Out of the BoxJul 18, 2011

I have a new laptop running WIN 7, 64-bit. USB keyboards and mice are relatively inexpensive these days, but I have a stash of PS/2 keyboards and mice that are 10+ years old. New units have undergone aggressive cost cutting, and I've found that the old units are more ruggedly built than most new units. In particular, I like the tactile feedback of the old keyboards with spring-loaded keys; and I like the heft of the old mice. The desired "feel" of keyboards and mice is purely a matter of personal preference, of course.

This converter is ruggedly made, like most Belkin products. This converter connects two PS/2 devices to a single USB port. I plugged the USB connector in the USB port of my laptop, and plugged a keyboard and mouse in the PS/2 connectors. That's all it takes for installation. No drivers to load.

I did need to reboot my laptop for it to recognize the keyboard and mouse. Works fine. I've tried this converter with about 6 different models of keyboards and about 6 different models of mice. One reviewer has reported problems with a specific setup, but I have not encountered any problems with my combinations of software and gear.

I bought this hoping it would work with my netbook and Belkin ps/2 KVM switch. It works very well, but one must be mindful of certain things. When the netbook first boots (windows xp) it takes some time before the adapter is recognized (adapter is alrady connected to the ps/2 plugs on my KVM) via the usb 2.0 port to which it's already connected. This is, of course, normal. Once the adapter is recognized the mouse is almost instantly ready to use. The keyboard requires a keystroke or three before it's recognized. The lights on the keyboard will blink as if responding to a computer's POST boot routine. After that the keyboard is ready to use. These are minor issues to anyone expert enough with computer devices to understand that they all have quirks. I can use my KVM switch normally, after both mouse and keyboard are recognized, to flip between the netbook and whatever other computer is hooked up to the other set of cables on the other side of the KVM switch. This is EXACTLY what I wanted! One small extra note: my keyboard is an ancient Maxi-Switch keyboard with the function keys (F1 - F10) on the left side. It is at least 25 years old. It uses a large older style pre-ps/2 plug that needs a ps/2 adapter to plug into my KVM switch. So through adapters, KVM, and an ancient keyboard, it all actually works!

Got this for a Symbol 2D barcode scanner to be converted from its PS2 (male) to a USB cord. Plug it into the keybord side of this adapter and it works great.

My system is 32 bit Windows 7 and I was reusing an old Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard with my docking station. Nice to save the money + not have to throw out the old keyboard. No configuration issues at all- just plug it in and use it.

I work on computers every day and surprisingly many times there just isn't a USB keyboard or mouse on hand, but the is a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. This thing has saved me a number of times already. I've used it on multiple computers with different PS2 keyboards and mice with no issues. Just plug it into a working USB port on any PC and then plug in your PS2 peripherals. I have not tried this with any other operating system other than Windows XP, Vista, and windows 7. If you'd like me to test it on Linux and Mac OS X, just leave me comment and I'd be happy to. Overall this is very convenient and works just as described. Belkin has a great name for themselves and this has a lifetime warranty on it as well.
