5Excellent wirless networking solution and portableJan 06, 2007
By J. Marques
I am running a "pre-N" network which simply means it's faster than G speed and with greater range. I bought this adapter for my kids PC about 35 feet away and through an interior wall. The download speeds are nearly as fast as my wired connection - I'm amazed.

Although I'm an advanced user (20 years with a home PC - built a few over the years) getting this device up and running was simply plug and play. I was online in 5 minutes. The connection is rock solid - no drops or loss of speed after a few weeks use. BTW, I opted for USB so the unit can be used on a new PC down the road (since it won't be obsolete for a long while given the speed).

4Does the job with XP DriversSep 18, 2008
By S. Bernstein
I have an older XP-Pro PC running on a Pentium 4 / 3.0 Mhz. Upon running the Belkin software and plugging the device in all looked promising; I entered my WEP key and it was accepted; then I received repeated messages that the network server would not communicate with my computer. As suggested in several reviews, I went into the Belkin utility and flagged the option to run on Windows' Utility...and now it works great at 54.0 mbps in a bedroom upstairs from my router. Uninstalling the Belkin software and running the Windows Add New Hardware Wizard made it work faster/better with fewer icons/distractions. So if your PC is XP-based bypass the Belkin software and go straight for the Windows new hardware installation and you should have a good experience with this product.

5Works with LinuxJan 07, 2010
By Paul Hale "BigDaddy"
Just in case anyone is looking, this worked fine with Ubuntu. This adapter completely outshines the Rosewill one I had that shot craps. It is a bit big though. About two fingers width, so even on a desktop you might want to use the cradle/mount thing that it comes with. All in all, I would buy another one.

These are great for children desktops. If you don't want them to have internet/network access, just remove the thing. Big points in my book.

2Installs and works fine - not durableOct 06, 2009
By B. Townsend
I own one of these because it came with our router. I installed it on our second computer using the corded dock, and within a couple of weeks, the major physical design flaw of the dock became apparent.

The attractive angled design has no support beyond the usb port and plug, and when anything bumps into it or the adapter gets pulled out and plugged back in (common if there are errors prompting disconnect and reconnect of the usb device!), the port in the dock AND the plug on the adapter module both develop connection issues. When the adapter is used by itself, it is large and awkward and more easily bumped or damaged.

It's the least durable usb item I've ever owned. If I could give it a zero for durability, I would. If it were possible to plug it in once and never, ever move/touch/bump it, it would be fine.

It installs easily, works great, until the connectivity issues inherent in the wear and tear made unavoidable by the poor physical design of the adapter and dock housings begins.

4Mac OS 10.3 - this one works!Mar 31, 2008
By Cookie Monster
After searching far and wide for wireless card for my old G4 Titanium Powerbook, I happened on this one from Belkin. It's BIG and cumbersome, but works flawlessly with OS 10.3.9.

I had previously purchased a Sonnet Aria Extreme card for this book, but it was defective and was returned. I understand that a LOT of these Sonnet cards have trouble.

The Belkin wireless G comes with a CD, and drivers for both OS 10.3 and 10.4 are on the disk, contrary to other posts. This may be a new development from Belkin, as I purchased the adapter in late March 2008. I get great range and speed with this adapter, and would recommend it to anyone with an older Mac laptop, running at least OS 10.3, who needs a wireless solution.
