This particular product -C8 is a 2 prongs connector suitable for only some laptops. Not for eg.HP laptops which uses 3 prong connector Belkin: - C6.

I couldn't use the Belkin F5C791-C8 surge protector as I didn't have the right information when I ordered. I thought that the F5C791-C8 (shotgun connections) was the polarized F5C791-C6 (Mickey Mouse connections). However, from another supplier, I was able to get the F5C791-C6 version, and it allows the power to connect. I haven't experienced any power surges to ascertain that this Belkin product should protect my laptop as described, but then again, I would just as soon as not, experience power surges. Either way, the price for these products, which include a retractable phone patch cord, is certainly affordable.

I have used this surge protector around the world in my travels and would highly recommend everyone using laptops to have one for their travel. I would not leave home without this as in many countries the electric supply voltage is not stable and surges are not uncommon, which could easily destroy your hard disk or the laptop. Highly recommended

I've used this device for over two years, now, and it works marvelously. I used it when I lived in South Korea, and when I traveled to China and Japan. I can confirm that it operates correctly in environments where 220V is the norm.

It hasn't failed, and I know I've encountered power surges.

It adds just a little bit of extra bulk to the AC adapter, but never having to worry about power surges it well worth it. On rare occasions, the cable that plugs from the protector to the wall will become loose, and I will have to push it back in firmly; I suspect that's from being moved/yanked around so much.

I have not tested the phone line protection, as I've never had a reason to use it.

Overall, this one's a keeper.
