5Nice Surge Protector but .....Feb 14, 2011
By daphnedmm
I purchased two surge protectors and so far we love them. My primary purpose for writing this review is to warn others to register their product for full protection.

After spending two days at the Belkin site, trying to register online I gave up and called the 800 number for U.S. customers (800-223-5546). While explaining the problem to the first customer service rep -- outsourced -- and mentioned solely because I don't think he understood why I needed to register my surge protectors. He stated my products were "already registered" prior to shipping. Huh? I asked how that is possible and he explained, Belkin has the serial number of each product and that's how registration occurs. I told him the enclosed product paperwork states, "please register your Belkin Surge Protector online on our website belkin.com" and politely asked to speak to another rep.

While on hold, my husband told me of a friend of his that recently lost a bunch of expensive equipment when he too had trouble registering online. (I don't know if it was a Belkin product). I do know his friend's claim was denied because there was no product registration on file. Once transferred back to the U.S. for a second tier level rep, my information for both surge protectors was easily registered and I was able to verify online at the Belkin site.

I rely a lot on Amazon reviews to help me choose which products to buy and thought this important enough to share and try to give back to the community, hope this helps someone else.

4Belkin 7-Outlet Surge ProtectorFeb 02, 2011

I'm happy with this product. It does have a minor defect in that there are little covers that are supposed to slide across the outlets when not in use, but they don't slide - they just pop out. Most power strips don't even have them, so I'm not worried about it.

5Works great!Jan 12, 2011

The extra long cord is a plus for my needs! I only use Belkin and APC brand surge protectors for my computer equipment. They seem comparable in quality.

5Great quality - but be sure you really need a 12 foot cordFeb 11, 2011
By R. Wallace
I've always liked the products that Belkin chooses to put its name on and this surge protector is no exception. I can't speak for the actual protection from surges (how would you know?), but the quality of workmanship and materials leads me to believe that it will serve that purpose well.

However, be sure you really need 12 feet of power cord. The cord on this unit is relatively heavy gauge and, as a result, is not very flexible. Any length beyond your needs may prove difficult to "hide". It works well for my singular situation, but I wouldn't be able to cleanly fit it in for general use any place else in my house.

55 of these, all goodSep 21, 2011

I've been purchasing these for clients a lot lately... they're great....super-long cord really comes in handy so you don't have to daisy chain surge protectors (no-no!)

I like that this has a "grounded" light and a "protected" light... it's actually revealed several outlets to me that were not, in fact, grounded!

You need your outlets to be grounded as part of the surge protection (I read that the surge protectors basically send the juice back through ground so if your outlet ain't grounded, it really won't be effective).

Love that the power switch is on the end so you don't accidentally power it off with your toes if you have this under your desk...although one client said she looked all over the strip and couldn't find the power switch... she just hadn't looked on the end! Lol

Belkin is a great company, lifetime warranty, no-hassle returns, and I once had a computer fry long long ago (the electricians sent too much juice through the building and all the surges melted, most of them sacrificed themselves for their attached equipment, but one got through) and Belkin coughed up a few hundred bucks for it!
