5More than just good coffeeJul 11, 2007
By J. Hobbs
The Bunn Coffee Brewer makes great coffee, but there is design feature that may appeal to many. The water pours into the front of the brewer.
With most counter top coffee makers, the water must be poured into the back of the machine. This means the coffee maker must be pulled away from the overhead cabinets in order to access the water reservoir. With the Bunn, I never have to move the machine and I can keep it pushed back on the counter top.
The brewing time is so short that you don't need a programmable timer. From the time I pour the water in until I am enjoying my first cup is only a little over 3 minutes.
I should have bought this a long time ago.

NOTE: The following testing was done with a digital multimeter and a "P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor" available on this site.

Approximate heater values:
Keep warm element = 37 watts
Warming plate = 53 watts
Main element = 800 watts

I Tested continuously for 5 days and made 12 pots of coffee. During that time period, the pot used 7.71 KW Hours of electricity. At our base rate of 10 cents per KW Hour the total cost for 5 days was 77.1 cents, daily cost was 15.4 cents and average per pot cost was 6.4 cents.

When you fill the reservoir with cold water and close the cover a small valve in the bottom of the reservoir opens and allows the cold water to enter the tank. The cold water is directed through a tube to the bottom of the tank. The cold water displaces the hot water which is pushed up and out the top of the tank through a tube to the basket. There it is dispersed though the ground coffee into the pot. This process takes about three minutes.

As the cold water displaces the hot water the temperature of the water in the tank drops. A thermostat which senses the water temperature turns on the Main Element. The Main Element is rated at approximately 800 Watts and takes seven or eight minutes to heat the cold water in the tank to brewing temperature, then the thermostat turns the main element off.

The Keep Warm element which is wrapped around the outside of the tank is energized continuously. It is rated at approximately 37 Watts and keeps the water in the tank at brewing temperature.

The Warming Plate element is rated at approximately 53 watts and is fastened to the underside of the plate that the pot is placed on. It's function is to keep the coffee in the pot warm while you are consuming it. It is controlled by the switch on the front of the machine and you can chose whether or not to use it.

Initially this coffee pot made a lot of racket during the seven or eight minutes it takes for the Main element to heat the water but after a couple weeks of use the racket stopped and it is nearly silent now. This is our third Bunn pot of this type. The first two were the GR10 Models. Each lasted about seven years and both failed with a ruptured and broken main heating element. If the manufacturer hasn't done anything to lower the watt density of the main element, that will probably be the eventual fate of this one also.

Energy-wise I don't see much difference between this pot and our old "Mr. C" which we used while we waited for this one to arrive but I didn't test "Mr. C" so I don't know for certain. Coffee wise, this pot makes a better tasting brew and does it in about 3 minutes from "close the cover" to "fill your cup".

P.S. I don't work for Bunn or anyone else, I'm retired and "fiercely independent".

Enjoy your coffee!

5Bunn coffee maker for the homeAug 09, 2007
By Loretta Hoffmann "Icon lover"
We bought this coffeemaker to replace a previous Bunn coffee maker. We had the previous one for close to 20 years. We were very satisfied with it, but, it had begun to leak in the "vacation" mode. We were delighted to find we could purchase one in white with a stainless steel reservoir. The price at Amazon was less than anywhere else and we appreciated having it shipped free.

5Wonderful, quick & tastyFeb 15, 2008

My previous coffee maker was the old version of this model. I love this one even more because you can put the water in and it doesn't come out until you turn the lid closed. Love it!

5Bunn 10 cup coffe makerNov 03, 2009
By Randall Stockman
This is the best coffee maker we have had, very well built, fresh hot coffee in less than 3 minutes. Best thing we like about it and one of the reasons we bought it was because it is made in the U.S.A. That means alot to us.
