5Expensive but worth itFeb 01, 2006
By surfbass
I've used this model of book for more than 20 years. It's hard to find an auto record book that has a good index system, convenient dividers that stick out for easy access, and plenty of room for records over an extended period. This book has all these elements.

If you shop around, most of what you'll find for auto record books is cheap notebooks or a few pages of paper with a flimsy cardboard cover. This spiral-bound record book is much more substantial and will hold up with repeated handling. I buy a new book for each car, and that book stays with the car as long as I own it.

5The best for tracking mileage and general expensesMar 03, 2009
By Chuck Martin
The biggest reason this product is the best for its purpose is that it's not designed for the traveling business person, whose needs are specific day-to-day recording of every expense. For most people, that format is a complete waste. this format, however, is nice and compact. You enter the dates of fuel or service, rather than them being pre-entered, calendar-like, and so you fill up the book one line at a time, taking weeks, or even months, to fill a page. It tracks the necessary information, and even has a handy chart to let you estimate your gas mileage. It's small, fitting nicely in a glovebox. It's sturdy, with a thick plastic cover and a strong spiral binding. The only drawback to this product is that it is typically not available in many bog-box office supply stores (probably because it doesn't need to be replaced as often as other auto logs, and so sales aren't as robust), so you're almost forced to buy it online--which isn't necessarily a bad thing, and Amazon's price is actually lower than list. this product is a good example of one the has no unneeded bells and whistles, but does the basics, and does them right.

5Well Suited to the PurposeJan 25, 2007
By Biker395
I dunno why, but it is just about impossible to find a well designed auto-log to keep track of automobile-related purchases. This one is the only one that I've found provides everything you need. There are separate sections devoted to gasoilne purchases, repairs and lubrication, deductible business trip-related expenses.

The few auto-logs I've seen in retail stores are either too big to be placed in a glove compartment or too small to allow the user enough room make legible entries. Not this one. The log is reasonably sized, and the boxes for entering data are reasoably sized, and a sufficient number of pages are provided.

5Perfect book when you use other sections for gas purchasesJul 12, 2008
By G. Silvestri
I've been using this auto log book for over 20 years or so, and wouldn't have a car without one in the glove box. I use these so I never need to write in the car's maintenance books so they are clean and don't have any bad news in them when I trade in the car.

As far as running out of gas pages - I solved that by continuing into the next section and adding column headings to match the gas section. That gets me through to when I sell the car.

I also dog-ear each gas page as it's filled, so that I can quickly get to the current page I need to write in when I fill up.

I put receipts in the plastic sleeve in back, and shred the oldest ones after a month when all purchases have been posted and confirmed.

Only thing I wish is that more "brick & mortar" stores had these in stock like they did years ago. Now I have to pay shipping which is a lot more than just tax.

It's still worth it for the quality of organization of my auto records. When I trade in my car, I keep the book in a file. It's amazing how much less I paid for gas those long years ago!

Haven't used it yet, but it came EARLY (how rare), and looks perfect in size and content. Now, I have to be disciplined about using it!
