We ordered this desk pad to be used on a wooden desk. The pad came today, and we immediately noticed a manufacturing defect along the length edges (all scuffed up), but more importantly we noticed a small sticker in the corner that read: "CAUTION: Avoid use on wood with lacquer, acrylic or urethane finishes as material may mar surface." Great! What desk doesn't have some kind of finish? This warning was nowhere to be found in the on-line product description. We're glad Amazon has a no-hassle return policy.

Bought 2 of these for a desk top. They are good quality and very much see through. You should note though that the advertised dimensions of 20" x 36" is approximate -- the actual size is 19 7/8" x 35". Shipping was very fast too.

Actual dimensions of 19.75in x 34.75in are not even close to advertised 20 x 36. This replaced a desk pad I've had for over 15 years, which had turned yellow and bubbly. The new pad is about half as thick as my original pad. It also has marks all along each of the long edges of the pad - not exactly "perfectly clear". I'd return it, but I don't want to hassle with it. It'll be functional and serve its purpose. If you need better than "fair" quality, look elsewhere.

Looks good, but started to ruin my expensive desk !Feb 12, 2012

I had this for a year now to protect a $2k+ executive desk that I splurged on for my home office. It still looks very good, but I have started to notice some worrisome bubbles on the surface of my desk, which look like a reaction from the wood varnish with the chemicals of the plastic cover. I have tried to nicely wipe the desk a few times, but these tiny bubbles won't go away. I noticed that it is worse where my hands and arms usually rest and apply pressure through the cover.

At this point, I might as well leave that cover on forever since the roughness of the wood underneath is both unpleasant to the touch and the eye, and I don't have an alternative yet. It has relatively stabilized over the past few months, so I'll just monitor it every month or so.

Also, this cover sheet has an annoying tendency to curb along the edges, so every few weeks or so, I have to gently curb it back the other way to make it lay flat.

I can't comment on other protective sheets, but I hope there are better products out there for long term usage.

UPDATE: I just reviewed another post here that says "Not for wood". The reviewer is correct: there is indeed a transparent round sticker with tiny fonts that you can barely notice in a corner, and that says not to use on lacquer, ... wood, which is what my desk varnish probably is !!!

--> if you have a nice wooden desk, do NOT buy this. This defeats the purpose of this cover sheet because what kind of desk would you spend $20+ to protect if it weren't a nice wood that's probably lacquered ?

I received the pad in a carton wrap - not really a box. The concierge didn't even think there was anything inside this piece of carton. The "box" was bent in 3 places so I was afraid the pad would be damaged. It was somewhat bent and it took about 3 days for it to be completely flat laid down on the desk. SO I was disappointing at first, and now I find ok. I wish the surface was less shiny, with a matte finish, but perhaps the surface would not be as comfortable for writing. It's a little overpriced though... I would have guessed something like this would be $15-$20.
