5Well Worth the MoneyAug 07, 2000
By Pete Poworoznek
When I first bought this product a couple of years ago, the driving reason was APC's reputation and the price of the unit. I had worked with some APC UPSs in my job and was impressed with the quality of the product.

Well, last week this product earned it's keep. Lightning struck a tree not more than 30 feet from our house. It fried one TV, 2 VCRs, and other items (not protected by APC products, but by other generic power strip surge suppresors).

However my computer was hooked up to one of these units, and it came through without a scratch. Our phone lines took a hit and had to be replaced from the street. Fortunately I had my modem line run through the Surge Arrest, so the modem was fine. The Surge Arrest does appear to have lost it's telephone line protection capability (dial tone at the wall, no dial tone after the Surge Arrest), but it's a small price to pay.

APC does have a product replacement policy for lightning strikes. I probably could get my unit replaced, but you know, I'm just going to buy a new one. The power outlets still work and I'll just use the old unit for other electronics.

One final note, the lightning strike apparently also entered our cable TV system. Our area is getting cable modem service soon and I am concerned about protecting that path into my computer. APC does make two products tha protect cable lines, but not many places sell them yet. I'm looking for them now as I want to protect my new TV/VCRs.

5This is fantasticApr 29, 2008
By Cathy R. Myers
I did not know my outlet I had my computers pluged into was bad until I plugged this in and the rsd light came on. I am very grateful for that red light. I used another outlet and it stayed green. That outlet could have done a lot of damage to my computers. The price was great and it will let you know you have a bad outlet. I believe everyone with a computer should have one of these just to know when your outlet goes bad.

5Piece of mindDec 12, 2010
By K. Stuckey "kateling"
I have 2 of these strips in my house and have never needed them, but I sleep well knowing they are there. There are plenty of plugs and the cord is longer than most power strips, which is nice. I have one in my office for my computer, printer, modem, router and cel phone charger; one in my living room for my TV, BluRay, cable box and stereo.

5APC is the Quality brandMar 28, 2010
By Willard B. Horton "geekforlife"
Not much to say. It is exactly what is claimed and works as simply as any power strip.
After decades of computers and electronics work and trying multiple brands of surge suppressors and UPS's, APC may cost a little more than some others but they are much better quality and worth any observed price difference.

5solid built quality and stellar performanceSep 02, 2011
By amazonlover
The built quality is good, quiet heavy in weight (which is good), power cord is bit heavy and the brand APC justifies its performance. Its been an year and till now no issue whatsoever encountered. Takes quiet a large space and looks bland in styling compared to its competitors, but hey, it does what it is supposed to do. I use it to plug my treadmill my wireless printer. Till now no complaints and I am happy with the purchase.
